There is no doubt that the dalis make and much bigger experience at both low and high volumes. My intention is to get rid of the 851a and invest in an emotiva pre amp as the money I have in the 851s power amp is now wasted. Weighing in at 25.2 lbs,and 17” wide x 4” high x 15.5” deep we have a fairly normal affair. As well asa solid milled front aluminum front plate, and steel chassis as the PT-100pre-amp in one of this two-part review. In addition, the led’s on the front panel indicate thestatus on the amp, blue for on, and red for fault. These can be turned off. It is here where we are greeted with the back ofthe A-300. Note, the ease of access to left and right channels. The A-300 alsoauto-senses the correct voltage is you are on 115v or 230. In addition to thisyou can turn on and off the channel lights, which otherward stay on duringoperation. For an class A/B amp that makes 150 per channel at 8 Ohms, and 300at 4 Ohms, the amp runs quite cool. The A-300 uses a toroidal transformer to produce ahealthy amount of power. This with the benefits of staying light and and lowhum. With this is a cleanly laid out power section, one that you would notexpect at a this price point. How does this the A-300 sound? One to keepclarity, with such pieces as Jessica Lauren Barlow’s self-titled album, neverbecoming muddy, as this is a very complicated Jazz piece just as Dave Matthews-Under the Table, yet another complicated album. Rather skeptically, I bit the bullet and invested in an EMOTIVA XPA 2 Gen 3 amp (rated at 300 watts, $1199), which now replaces this half-as-powerful A-300 amp. I will say that there is a discernible difference between the two amps; whether that difference is ultimately worth the increased cost, you will have to check back with me in 6-8 months.
