There are two related unique features of this speaker. 1. It is a three-way speaker with woofer, midrange, and tweeter, which is unusual in small bookshelf speakers. 2. The midrange and tweeter are coaxial which means that the tweeter is in the middle of the mid-range and therefore the sounds are perfectly in phase because the drivers are not separated as in a normal speaker. These were designed by renowned speaker designer Andrew Jones who oversaw acclaimed designs at KEF, Pioneer, ELAC, and now Mobile Fidelity. He is famous for saying, The best two-way speaker is a three-way speaker. I just discovered that if you search Google for Elac Uni-Fi UB5 it will list the Amazon old listing which is not in stock. There are a few marks on the top of both. I didnt try to cover them up or buff them out other than cleaning. I think they show up more to the camera than to the naked eye but theyre there. ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 Bookshelf - Excellent Condition Heres the backstory on these speakers. In the fall 2021, I moved into a new condo and decided to give these a try, and for the money theyre very good. Theyre a 3-way design, with the top driver being coaxial (dome tweeter and midrange in one basket). This is a point source design where the critical high/midrange sounds emanate from one point. The woofer is a separate 5.25 aluminum driver designed to handle just the lows. These are front ported, which means theyre better for smaller rooms and can be place closer to a wall. There is a ton of reviews on the web for these. Andrew Jones from Elac designed these to go after higher end designs like the KER R3. This makes sense, because earlier in his career Andrew worked for KEF. After about a year, I decided that I was going to stay in the new condo, so I upgraded my entire system and packed these away in the closet thinking I would use them again in the coming months. I never did and keep moving them from one side of the closet to the other. Im in a smoke-free environment, with no kids, cats, or dogs. These just sat on the stands until I repacked them. Since everything I buy is subject to being sold when I upgrade, I always retain the original boxes and packing materials. As part of the sale, Im including a set of Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) speaker cables, with high-quality banana plugs. Each cable is 6 in length.
