ELAC Uni-Fi UB51-BK Speakers This auction is for a pair of well-cared, gently used ELAC Uni-Fi UB51 speakers. The condition is like new. I can find no dings or damage of any kind. The sharp corners are all intact (see photos), the grills are fine. These speakers are a real find. They were designed by Andrew Jones, the well-known British speaker designer. The UB5 is a three-way design with a concentric mid-range and tweeter, with the mid-range cone acting as a wave guide for the tweeter. The bass is surprisingly good for the size of the driver and the imaging is better than many much more expensive speakers. Youll look hard to find better sounding speakers at this size and price. There are two related unique features of this speaker. 1. It is a three-way speaker with woofer, midrange, and tweeter, which is unusual in small bookshelf speakers. 2. The midrange and tweeter are coaxial which means that the tweeter is in the middle of the mid-range and therefore the sounds are perfectly in phase because the drivers are not separated as in a normal speaker. There are a few marks on the top of both. I didnt try to cover them up or buff them out other than cleaning. I think they show up more to the camera than to the naked eye but theyre there. I used these in my system in concert with Bose 301’s (also for sale) and they worked excellently. I used a Niles speaker selector to even out the volume (also for sale).
