Dynaudio Confidence C2 Signature Loudspeakers Written by: Jeff Fritz Created: 01 December 2012 One of the questions readers often ask is how I choose what to review. My answers vary: What’s new that readers might be interested in? What products are creating buzz in the audiophile community? What looks promising in terms of sound? Over the years, I’ve gotten a pretty good handle on what products will ultimately lead to reviews -- positive or negative or somewhere in between -- that lots of folks will want to read, and that knowledge informs my decisions. A Dynaudio speaker is always a good bet for review, and the reasons are as clear as day. Some companies can be counted on, and Dynaudio is one of them. This Danish manufacturer produces high-performing loudspeakers in a wide range of prices, and has a devoted following built up through years of success. From examining acoustical measurements, both our own and those of other magazines, I know that Dynaudio speakers are technically excellent, as they should be -- the company is one of the few speaker manufacturers to have its own anechoic chamber. They also make all their own drivers. Also, I’ve rarely heard a Dynaudio speaker, at an audio show or elsewhere, sound anything less than very good, and more often than not it sounds better than that. All of this is to say that I felt that Dynaudio’s Confidence C2 Signature ($16,000 USD per pair) Delivered. Would be a good candidate for a review: something that would be likely to perform well, and that readers would thus be interested in. Confidence, C2, and Signature The Confidence C2 was first introduced in 2002. The current, basic C2 was fine-tuned last summer and is now the C2 II ($13,500/pr.). The subject of this review, however, is the Confidence C2 Signature, which includes a few specially selected veneer upgrades over the C2 II’s standard finishes: high-gloss Mocca and Bordeaux. The cabinet is made of MDF, and the speaker vents to the rear via a single port of flared plastic not quite midway up its rear panel. The driver complement of the two-way C2 Signature comprises pairs of tweeters and woofers. The tweeter is the newest version of Dynaudio’s 28mm, neodymium-magnet-driven, soft-dome Esotar2, whose fabric now has a new coating said to produce smoother response than the earlier version. The Esotar2s are housed in an aluminum subbaffle that’s mounted flush with the baffle proper, and crossed over at 2200Hz to the two 6.7 midrange-woofers, one above and one below the tweeters. These midrange-woofers have aluminum voice coils wound on Kapton formers and cones made of magnesium-silicate polymer, and are supported by die-cast aluminum frames. Of course, all of these drivers are made by Dynaudio, as has always been the case with this company’s speakers. All four drivers are mounted on an offset baffle painted flat black, and claimed to be made of multiple layers of MDF and to decouple the drivers from the main body of the cabinet. The chamfers at the edges of this baffle are intended to reduce cabinet diffraction, a design detail that helps ensure a clean wave launch from the drivers. The decoupling technique is an attempt to reduce the overall cabinet resonances that can ensue when a driver transfers its energy to the panels of the enclosure. Great drivers can’t do much without a great crossover. Dynaudio has improved the quality of components used in the C2 Signature, which now include ceramic resistors and air-core coils. The internal wiring has been upgraded, though no details were provided as to precisely what those improvements are. The audiophile who ponies up for the Signature edition gets more than just a nicer finish: applied to the Signature models is a doubling of the warranty period, from five to ten years -- not inconsequential, given the $16,000 investment. Finally, on the rear panel just below the port, an aluminum plate bears the silk-screened signature of Dynaudio’s owner and founder, Wilfried Ehrenholz. Among the Confidence C2 Signature’s claimed specifications are a frequency response of 28Hz-25kHz, +/- 3dB; a sensitivity of 87dB; and the ability to handle 300W of power -- it should be able to play quite loud. Its electrical impedance of 4 ohms should be factored in when choosing an amplifier. The 88-pound C2 Signature measures 61H x 9.4W x 17.5D, though the speaker’s base sprawls to 16.5 wide for lateral stability. In that base are countersunk metal inserts that accept spikes for coupling the speaker to your floor, and directly above the base are a single pair of insulated, gold-plated, five-way binding posts. A few words about the cabinet: At 88 pounds, the C2 Sig is hardly chintzy, but it also wasn’t the most inert, solid-feeling design I’ve rapped my knuckles on -- you won’t mistake it for a speaker from Rockport Technologies. The C2 Sig seemed a bit hollow and thin-walled in comparison to the more massive speakers I’ve auditioned. How much does this matter, sonically? Hard to say. Confidence C2 frequency response in Jeff Fritzs Music Vault listening room. One important design detail of the C2 Signature is what Dynaudio calls its Dynaudio Directivity Control (DCC). You’ll notice the symmetrical driver layout; although doubling-up the drivers does, as you’d imagine, aid in power handling and absolute output-level capability, another benefit of this arrangement is that the floor and ceiling bounce created by these drivers’ outputs is reduced by as much as a claimed 75%. What this means in practical terms is that the C2 Sig’s output will interact less with the floor and ceiling, which should result in a smoother frequency response at the listening position, and thus a more neutral tonal balance. Kudos to Dynaudio for using their acoustical knowhow to make speakers designed to reproduce sound with high fidelity to the original recorded event, as opposed to a tailored house sound. That’s the nuts’n’bolts of the Confidence C2 Signature. Time to listen. Sound First impressions were strong. The Dynaudio Confidence C2 Signatures did a credible job of disappearing in my room from the get-go. Singers were centrally located, perhaps just a touch behind the plane described by the speakers’ front baffles. Alison Krauss’s voice sounded neutral in Gravity, from her Lonely Runs Both Ways (16/44.1 AIFF, Rounder). I found singers to be, in general, more intelligible than the norm through the C2 Sigs, whose clarity was a notch above that of most speakers I review and/or hear at shows. This was partially due to the C2’s neutrality and clear-as-day midrange, but I think it had just as much to do with what was going on in the treble and upper bass. North Dakota, from Lyle Lovett’s Live in Texas (16/44.1, MCA), had a strong midbass presence that, though tight and full, didn’t at all intrude on midrange clarity. This is quite a feat for a two-way speaker to pull off. There’s no question that having dedicated midrange and bass drivers gives a three-way design a tremendous advantage in this area, but the C2 Sig gave a fine showing despite being a two-way. Its full midbass did make the speaker sound a touch warm overall when a recording contained a lot of midbass energy. That warmth, however, stayed put down low, where it could be fully appreciated, instead of making its presence known where it wasn’t wanted: in the range of human voices. The acoustic bass was reproduced with good articulation. Kristy’s version of the 1944 standard It Could Happen to You, from her My Romance (16/44.1 AIFF, Alma), never mushed together or got sloppy. The bass line that dominates this track was always articulate, and energized my room enough to sound credible in terms of size. In this song, Kristy’s voice pops out of the mix in a very prominent way. The C2 Signatures reproduced this aspect of the recording just right. Now Kristy wasn’t behind the speakers but right up front, close and life-size, which is just how I’ve heard this track sound through the better speakers I’ve had here in the Music Vault. The accompanying acoustic piano also remained clear and tonally pure. Despite the C2 Signature’s two tweeters doing a job normally handled by a single unit, that didn’t mean that the treble stuck out of the mix at all. In fact, the sonic coherence displayed by the C2 Sig was another of its definite strengths -- I don’t think anyone will find the sound of these speakers disjointed or muddled. Nor did they ever sound bright or harsh, unless the recording itself leaned heavily in that direction. Therein lay an area in which taste will come into play. Although I never found the C2 Sig lacking in extension in any obvious way, its fabric-dome Esotar2s didn’t do air and ambience the way the best beryllium tweeters do. To be fair, some listeners feel that the latter can provide too much of a good thing, and find those ultra-hard-domed tweeters too detailed. (As long as they’re implemented correctly, I’ve found them to sound just right.) But based on its performance I can’t deny the fact that the Dynaudio Esotar2 is one of the finest tweeters in the business, and the pair of them in each C2 Sig sounded meaty and tonally dense -- stringed instruments sounded especially good. OK, soap box: It amazes me that some companies are, after many years, just coming back around to soft-dome tweeters, as if they’re a new discovery. Dynaudio’s Esotar has been in production for some two decades and just keeps getting better. Low, from Jonas Hellborg’s The Silent Life (16/44.1 AIFF, Day Eight Music), is one of the best tests for low-bass depth, power, and articulation. If a speaker can get this track right, I generally find that it can do justice to most any bass-laden music. The entire track is one long solo on electric bass guitar. The Dynaudio played lower than you’d think possible for a two-way speaker with only a pair of 6.7 drivers that must also reproduce the midrange. I found that the C2 Sigs could energize my room with an amount of bass power substantial enough that I doubt many listeners would feel they needed to augment it with a subwoofer. Still, the C2 Sigs couldn’t quite deliver Norbu, from Bruno Coulais’s music for the film Himalaya (16/44.1 AIFF, Virgin), with the power and authority of the largest floorstanders I’ve had in the Music Vault. No surprise there. In my room, the C2 Sigs sounded powerful down to the low-30Hz area -- plenty low enough for most people and most music. Sonus Faber vs. Dynaudio In April of this year I reviewed the Sonus Faber Amati Futura loudspeaker ($36,000/pair), which costs well more than twice the price of the Dynaudio Confidence C2 Signature. I compare them here because, of all the speakers that have visited the Music Vault this year, these most closely resemble each other in terms of sound. The Sonus Faber is more luxuriously built and more seductively styled. It’s also a four-driver, three-way design. The Amati Futura sounds slightly bigger than the C2 Signature, with bass that goes just a smidge deeper. The soundstage thrown by the Sonus Fabers is a bit more wall-meltingly expansive, which conveys slightly more of the original acoustic environment captured in live recordings. That extra $22,000 definitely buys you a little more but, not much. However -- and this is a big however -- the Confidence C2 Signature more than held its own in a number of areas. First, the C2 Sig was just as neutral and clear in the midrange as the Sonus Fabers. If you listen to tons of vocal music, I don’t know that you’ll hear that much of a difference between the two models. The Dynaudio could reproduce the textures in male voices just as well as the Amatis. In terms of midbass punch, there was no doubt that the Danish speaker was easily a match for the Italian. In fact, this is one area where the C2 Sig, with some music, pulled ahead of the Amati. The Dynaudio’s propulsive midbass fit Bon Jovi and Rage Against the Machine better than what I remember from my evaluation of the Sonus Faber. But the Confidence C2 Signature really shone in the highs. I can say with, um, confidence that the C2 Sig seemed to have more energy in the highs than the Amati Futura, but not at the cost of harshness, grain, or long-term listening fatigue. Whereas the Sonus Faber leans toward the softer side of the ledger, the Dynaudio was more neutral up top, which gave it a more exciting sound, especially with rock. This comparison makes the Confidence C2 Signature seem somewhat of a bargain in comparison with the Sonus Faber Amati Futura. It is. Conclusions Dynaudio’s Confidence C2 Signature occupies an interesting place in the high-end marketplace. It’s not inexpensive at $16,000/pair, though it can be considered a bargain in the context of such expensive speakers as the Sonus Faber Amati Futura. But as I said at the outset, it is a Dynaudio, and that means something. The Danish firm has long been a pioneer in the loudspeaker industry -- the Esotar tweeter alone, in all its iterations, has seen to that -- and its followers are legion. My listening experience of it in the Music Vault revealed not one thing that would tarnish that reputation. I expect that the Confidence C2 Signature will please many, and none more than the audiophile who has dreamed of owning a special-edition speaker from a legendary company. The Confidence C2 Signature is a fine example of exactly that. REVIEW SCORE 4 REVIEWS 5 ????? ????? The smallest model in the Confidence range particularly captivates through its extremely elegant proportions. In typical Danish fashion, Dynaudio pays meticulous attention to high quality craftsmanship. Every Confidence model is built in Denmark, completely in-house, through a combination of advanced computer-aided production engineering and exhaustive hand craftsmanship. The cabinets are built by skilled craftsmen who finely sand and hand polish each loudspeaker in a lavish process. The result is a high quality cabinet that will endure for decades while always maintaining the magnificent beauty of its appearance. The baffle rests a bit in front of the cabinet enclosure, forming a gently curved tail on its moulded proportions. The audible benefit is that a wonderfully precise imaging is achieved, as is a soundstage with authentic dimensions, while vocals are rendered with an unbelievably natural precision. These performance attributes are also related to the Confidence models balanced impedance technology, which results in the speaker not having to demand unreasonably high current from the connected amplifier. Low frequencies are now effortlessly reproduced without consequence, and it is possible to effectively utilize even inefficient power amplifiers due to the ease of drive achieved through the balanced impedance. USER REVIEWS Showing 1-4 of 4 [Apr 06, 2011] AudioNut AudioPhile The C2s to me do everything right, to my ears. You can find them used for a much better deal. The workmanship is some of the best I have seen in the industry and there drivers are very detailed and not bright. This speaker sounds good with just about every type of music you can imagine, the C2 sounds good in a small room and even better in a bigger one, so no limitations on size of the room except for very low ceilings since these stand tall. Matching a good Int. Amp and or Amp is makes these speakers, sing even better. Musical Fidelity seems to mate very well with them. Other speakers to listen to: C1, C4 and Joseph Audio comes to mind. [Jun 26, 2003] Gust AudioPhile Strength: Enough good bass always in control Excellent reproduction of voices very good soundstage, clear and realistic needs quality amp but not the big power monsters, enough power though, fully class A amp recommended Weakness: none I had about 9000 Euro to spend on a good speaker. Finally I had to choose between the Dynaudio confidence C2 and the B&W Nautilus 802. Both are very good speakers but differ a lot. The B&W has deeper bass and clearer bass. The Dynaudio outshined the B&W in the midrange and higher frequencies. (personally I think the B&W midrange is a little bit aggressive causing fatique, but then again a life violin for example is not always sounding sweet. Anyway listening to the C2 made it clear that I would be able to listen longer at home and that is what I want to do. The high and midrange frequencies are excellent and the soundstage is very realistic. Bass is less than the 802 but this is no problem. The C2 has firm and controlled bass. You should stick to the 802 however if you want to listen to church organs. The C2 has enough bass for all other music and just enough. But the 802 is a marvellous speaker so why did I choose for the C2? Budget, yes! Well they are nearly the same price but you can only make the B&W sound good with very strong amps, which are mostly costly. The C2 can be driven with less power, however they sound best with a big amp, aswell, but they are less sensitive to the amps power than B&W. Do buy the B&W 802 is you could find two second hand SUMO 9 plus amplifiers to bi-amp the 802. It will sound great. If not you will have to pay a lot of money to drive the B&W. Or buy the C2 and I am sure you will be pleased, like I am with excellent sound, where you can spend money on a less expensive amp. I know use a LUXMAN 505s integrated wich is not the best amplifier for the speaker. I ve listend to a Plinius Class A amp that made the C2 sound great. Shpinx Project 12 mono blocks as well. But they work well with a relatively cheap pre/power amp of Primare (30 series). Similar Products Used: B&W 802 Nautilus OVERALL RATING 5 ????? ????? VALUE RATING 3 ????? ????? Weakness: - took a long time to run in (200 hours) - needs a strong amp and good (expensive) electronics - lacks some punch at ultra-low (<45 Hz) Its strange to be the first to review this speaker. I own this speaker for nearly an year and reviews has been published in nearly all important audio-magazines in Europe and in the US. Why took it such a long time before we can review this C2 on this website?? The Dynaudio C2 is a beautiful speaker. The looks are nice and they are easy to integrate in the design of your room. The acoustics are also simple to handle. At home I have a living room (40m2); not a studio, but the soundstage is nonetheless really impressive. It is high (from floor to ceiling), wide and deep. It is important that you use a very good CD-player and amplification to reveal this quality (in my case Audio Research CD 3 and Marsh 400 + 2000T). The soundcharacter is neutral, perhaps a little dark. The treble is silky; the mids detailed but not edgy; the low is easy and fast. You can play every kind of music (classic, jazz, rock, folk) at any volume and you will enyou the music and the emotions. Even after hours of listening there is even no trace of fatigue and you will only experience the real ambiance of the music floating in your room. Only at the ultra-lowend (<45Hz)it lacks some punch (esp. rockmusic, pop, reggea or surround movies). But for this booming music/moviesound you can switch on a good subwoofer (I use REL Q200), this is cheaper than to buy the C4 and pay 4000 Euro for the 20 lowest Hertz. Growing Pleasure: Loudspeakers in this price range ought to do well in most performance parameters. With The Euphonia MS 5 Dali has applied all their skills. The question is: How far does that take us? There are well-crafted loudspeakers, then there are very well-crafted loudspeakers, then there is Dali! If there is one thing that these Danish speaker builders have always excelled at, it is making loudspeakers with stunning cosmetic finish. Obviously, Euphonia MS 5 is no exception. It is a creation that inspires love at first sight. This is a massive loudspeaker whose size indicates the kind of space it requires in order to breathe freely. This was confirmed every time the MS 5s depth charge bass rolled through our listening room. The Dali story began a little over 20 years ago and the man behind it all was no less than Peter Lyngdorf, who has since become famous for his TacT Audio products. In 1983, he decided to build no-compromise loudspeakers under the name Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industry, Dali for short. Today, Dali employs more than 60 people and the range consists of nearly 60 models. It is definitely a global brand with distribution in more than 40 countries. Anniversary Giant: The Euphonia Series was introduced to celebrate Dalis 20th anniversary and reaffirm their reputation as a name to reckon with. MS 5 (MS for Main Speaker) is the flagship of the series with design and finish truly worthy of the term flagship. The detailed finish can be studied under a magnifying glass and the construction exudes the joy of workmanship and solid traditional handcraftsmanship. At 124 centimeters tall and a deadweight of 69 kg, this is an armor-crushing giant of a loudspeaker. It is a three-way bass reflex design with dual 8 inch woofers, a 6.5 inch midrange unit and Dalis proprietary ribbon/soft dome high frequency module. In fact, it is more a three-and-a-half- way design, since the dome and the ribbon do not cover exactly the same frequency range. The high frequency module can be said to be the heart of the series, as it is employed throughout the Euphonia range. One might well ask: why two different types of high frequency drivers? It is a well known fact that at rising frequencies dispersion narrows to a tight beam. Because this is undesirable behavior, loudspeaker designers have constantly sought ways to work around the problem. Conventional dome tweeters have good horizontal and vertical dispersion, while ribbon drivers have fine horizontal dispersion, but poor vertical dispersion. Dali claims that by combining these two sets of performance characteristics, they achieve enhanced high frequency dispersion. Most important, however, are the outstanding sonic benefits that a ribbon tweeter offers. In many cases, a ribbon tweeter can deliver more linear frequency response and faster transient response than a conventional dome. In addition, it is easier to minimize distortion. Presumably, all of these qualities were desirable, but in order to ensure proper dispersion, a dome was also used. The dome extends to 15 kHz, while the ribbon continues all the way to 28 kHz. The tweeter module is placed at ear-height between the midrange and bass units. This position also ensures best possible integration between the high and mid frequencies and allows listening positions closer to the speakers without sonic compromise. Fibers and Dispersion: The dual 8 inch and single 6.5 inch units are specially developed for the series. The goal was a fast, yet rigid cone without resonant tendencies. To achieve this, a special type of paper pulp cone was chosen containing unusually long wood fibers in carefully calculated proportions. The fibers are credited with resonance control and make possible a cone with low mass and high rigidity. To further reduce resonance, the cone is coated with a synthetic material. Another key design goal was minimal loss in the transition from electrical to mechanical energy. Great emphasis has been placed on designing drivers that convert as much as possible of the signalís electrical energy into cone motion, instead of turning it into heat due to mechanical resistance. An additional objective was smooth, even, room-independent dispersion. It would seem that this goal has been achieved. One can move about freely between the loudspeakers without radical changes in sound. Listening distance is also not a particularly crucial parameter. The MS 5 has a large ìsweet spot. Tri-Wiring: The crossover filter is not left to chance in such a serious loudspeaker design. To eliminate interference from air motion inside the enclosure and from panel vibration, the crossover is isolated in a chamber at the base. All components are mounted to minimize interaction, which is especially important with inductors and their magnetic fields. All components are hard-wired, i.e. soldered directly to each other with no printed circuit board. The loudspeakers are fitted with three pairs of terminals for optional tri-wiring. The crossover is optimized for tri-wiring or, even better, tri-amping. At the very least, bi-wiring or bi-amping is recommended, in which case the lower two terminal pairs (bass and midrange) are connected together, while the high frequency input is connected separately. We used this configuration during our listening sessions. The terminals are of high quality and accept all types of connections. For banana plugs, the opening can be tightened for increased contact pressure. For enhanced structural integrity, the enclosure is made from MDF with numerous vertical grooves to make it easier to bend. The front baffle is a sandwich construction with 16 mm MDF on top of a 22 mm panel. The stone base, weighing in at 20 kg, is made from crushed granite. Never Disappoint: It has always been my experience that recordings that impress the first time around tend to die after a few listens. The best records I have heard have most often only seemed okay after the first listen, barely hinting at their potential. But the more you listen, the better they become. I do not know if this line of reasoning can also be applied to audio, but if so, the MS 5 is a damn fine loudspeaker. The first impression was not that this is an extraordinary loudspeaker, but the more we listened, the more we were impressed. This is a loudspeaker that takes a brief while to grow on you. It is difficult to say why this should be the case. Perhaps it stimulates so many of our auditory taste buds all at once that initially there is simply too much information to deal with. This is definitely a loudspeaker that we can unconditionally recommend even to people whose sonic preferences we know nothing about. Dali Euphonia MS 5 is such a multi-facetted loudspeaker that no listener will come away disappointed. It doesnt matter what sonic parameter you focus on, MS 5 masters it. It has no aberrant characteristics that some listeners might take issue with. A Perfect Balancing Act: With speakers in this price range, a subwoofer should not have to be your next investment. We can eliminate any risk of such an investment straight away. If there is any frequency range that the MS 5 masters, it is the bass. In this range, it can compete with the best speakers we have auditioned in this series of articles. It goes way down deep, yet remains highly articulate and dry. It has a pistonic force that reminds us of the Revel Performa F50 with its peerless depth charge feel. When playing music with substantial bass content, filled with synthesizer bass lines or electric bass in the bottom octaves, they offer rich contrast and impressive control. There is a sense of freedom and ease that imparts a very natural flow to bass information. Those familiar with Maxwells Embrya know the ludicrous synthesizer bass on the first track. Put it on and turn up the volume and the sound goes straight through your bodyís organs in a manner that I have rarely heard before. The bass becomes hellishly physical. A kidney belt is recommended to keep your inner organs in place! Still, the bass breathes and pulsates effortlessly! Naturally, this monumental performance demands an amplifier with excellent power reserves. With far less expensive loudspeakers, potent bass tends to overshadow everything else, making the system sound less coherent. But that is not a problem here. The midrange and high frequencies integrate ideally with the powerful bass. Amazing consistency is one of the characteristics of the MS 5 that impresses us most of all. In spite of its powerful bass, it is perfectly balanced. Moving up the frequency spectrum, we encounter an open, articulate midrange that unearths a wealth of micro-details and nuances. Voices are rendered with highly realistic body and warmth. All chest tones are present and vocals flow free and clear. Brass instruments have a natural timbre and realistic presence. Their tonal colors are amazing and their full dynamic capabilities are revealed. While the midrange is perhaps not quite as focused or distinctly dynamic or as detailed as B&W Nautilus 802, Von Schweikert VR-4 GEN III or Martin Logan Odyssey, the difference is minimal. But there is one area in which MS 5 far and away exceeds its fantastic bass and overall coherence ñ the upper frequencies. It is without rival and is perhaps the finest upper range we have heard in this test series. Offhand, we cannot name any speaker that does it better. The highs are extended and airy with incredible sparkle, dynamics and tonal color. It is pristine and seems completely liberated from any kind of distortion. The usually difficult S-sounds found on many of our demo discs are handled brilliantly. We have seldom heard such gentleness combined with such a distinct and fully mature reproduction of the upper frequency range. It is amazingly well-integrated with the midrange and extends upwards with stunning naturalness. Undeniably first class performance. We tip our hats and bow in the presence of some of the finest high frequencies we have ever heard. Luxury for All: As should be clear by now, this is an impressive loudspeaker in so many respects. It is impressive that Dali could bring together all the parts to create such a powerful whole. When you sit and listen, your attention is not focused on individual aspects, instead you can revel in a loudspeaker that plays music of all kinds and changes moods to match the music. It approaches its task with consummate ease and never once stumbles. It keeps a sharp eye on the musical event and has impeccable timing. It is also insanely great fun to crank them up loud. It is tough to come up with any reasonable or justified criticism, but if I had to guess, there might be those would feel that the lower octaves could be just the tiniest bit faster, although I personally have no objections on this point.MS 5 has a warm sound that never comes close to being overblown, but when paired with electronics with exaggerated warmth, it might be a bit much for some listeners. The stereo image could be just a bit more focused. There are better alternatives at this price point. It does not appear to be an especially difficult amplifier load, but we can imagine how great it could sound tri-amped with three heavyweight power amplifiers connected directly to the respective filter sections. Do not underestimate the importance of a powerful amplifier, especially if you want to take full advantage of their bass potential! This is a High End loudspeaker in the true sense of the word with such an appealing sound that the vast majority should love it. If you were to assemble a list of the qualities that you would expect from a speaker at this price, Dali Euphonia MS 5 fits the bill. If you have the money and are looking for loudspeakers, you must give them a listen. But remember to check your home owners insurance. It may not cover building damage caused by bass rhythms. The Dali MS5 Speakers are the flagship of the Euphonia Series. At over 4 feet tall and a weight of 132 lbs., this is an armor-crushing giant of a loudspeaker. Nothing but seeing and hearing the EUPHONIA MS5 can describe it! From the manufacturer’s website: The EUPHONIA MS5 is a three-way bass reflex speaker with 2 x 8 bass woofers, 1 x 6.5” midrange driver and DALI´s proprietary ribbon/soft dome hybrid tweeter module. In fact, it is a three-and-a half-way design, as the dome and the ribbon do not cover the same frequency range. The Hybrid Tweeter Module and the paper/wood fiber cone drivers are core DALI technologies and the heart of the EUPHONIA Series. Same core technologies are employed throughout the DALI speaker range. DALI makes it easy to integrate loudspeakers in any room. They carefully select driver materials and geometry as well as design the crossover especially to achieve wide dispersion. DALI loudspeakers fill a wider area of the room with smooth, integrated sound. They design loudspeakers for optimal frequency response (consistent sound pressure regardless of frequency), even for listeners seated off-center. The EUPHONIA Series is developed, designed, hand-built, assembled and individually tested at the DALI factory in Denmark.
