What better way to start off this description with the original information from the manuals which are included with the speakers: This bookshelf unit has been designed for use with professional or domestic reproducers and may be used for stereophonic or normal (monophonic) reproduction. The cabinet shape is so designed that it may be placed in either a horizontal or vertical position. The serial number plate, located on the rear of the cabinet, is position at the end which the high frequency loudspeaker is mounted so as to identify the relative position of this component when acoustically balancing a pair of units. Each unit contains a hand-made 13 1/2 x 8 1/8 inch specially designed elliptical driver having an aluminum center cone and plastic suspension and is identical to the combines with a pair of 3 1/2 inch high-frequency loudspeakers to produce a substantially flat response over the normal audio range. The blending of the frequency response from each of the two types of loudspeaker employed is achieved by means of a carefully designed capacitive/inductive crossover unit which operates at a frequency of 4500 cps. It is mounted inside the cabinet. The cabinet, which measures 24 x 13 x12 1/4 inches deep, is rigidly constructed from wood specially chosen for the purpose, finished in a figured walnut The inside of the cabinet is heavily lined to prevent the formation of standing waves and other spurious reflective effects. Needless to say, these are absolutely outstanding speakers. They have a nice flat frequency response, very natural, perfect for the use with tube amplifiers. The lows are nice, the elliptical drivers give these speakers a very warm and unique tone. The midrange is outstanding. The paper tweeters sound good, but they arent as bright or harsh as most modern speakers, which for me is a positive thing. Each driver was tested and works perfect. They all test with in the normal ranges. The surrounds are all good and there are no rips or tears in the cones.The speakers sound incredible. These are 4 ohms each. I prefer local pick up only.
