Former Denon flagship. Originally $5,500. The receiver made a popping noise last week and now I can’t get it out of protection mode (flashing red light). I suspect a capacitor blew although I took off the top and I don’t see anything like leakage. I had and have had an AC Infinity AIRCOM S8 on top of the receiver and it was not hot (around 85 degrees according to the AC Infinity AIRCOM) when it happened. What I can say is that there was no smoke and no burning smell when it happened.

It seems this got more frequent as time went on, it would sometimes only happen every few months, sometimes about every few weeks, and recently, maybe once per week and I ended up having to factory reset to restore sound. I have only used this receiver in a 2.1 setup with no surround, way more bells and whistles that I need, so I decided to order a new Integrated 2.1 amplifier and sell this Denon here to someone who can maybe address the software or any other issues it has. Due to age, it could even need a re cap. I noticed recently when I would have these audio drop offs, there was some dolby info flickering on the screen.The only thing I had plugged into this receiver was an Amazon Firestick and a DVD player. I believe this receiver was not playing nice with the fire stick due to software issues, however I can only speculate. I could never get this receiver to connect to my network, and if I did, I believe there is no longer software support due to the age. (I am not super tech savvy). This receiver was part of a huge lot of audiophile grade audio I purchased during covid from one estate, there was very very good high end stuff from vintage to newer. I kept this receiver and a pair of ESS tower speakers along with 2 klipsch powered subwoofers and the rest I sold here. The other thing I noticed, it seems I remember not having to turn the volume level as high to get very loud. The receiver with my ESS speakers sounds absolutely amazing, I am just not sure I am getting the volume level I used to, this of course may be something I am missing in the settings after a factory reset. I have included a video to show this receiver working, not easy to judge sound quality through a phone speaker, but it does sound very good. At 150 Watts per channel into 8 ohms, this should more than power my ESS speakers with a 95 DB sensitivity rating. I loved the sound of this receiver with its toroidal power transformer so much, that my replacement amplifier having the same type of transformer made up my decision to move on and purchase. Comes with a power cord and one remote, originally I had a second remote with an LCD screen,the screen on the remote did not work correctly and I am not sure if I put it somewhere or got rid of it. Sold as is with issues to address or repair. Will be packaged well.
