There is a black bit/section on the granite, as seen in the pics. This isnt damage, or a repair etc, just a part of the granite and as it came from the factory. This was removed from a Definitive Technology Mythos STS Supertower speaker, which had a faulty internal amplifier. Easy swap if you have a damaged or missing plinth.
