Each speaker is scratch-free, looking like new. A few of the plastic tabs for the grills have broken off over the years, but there are enough to hold the grill firmly in place still. It looks great on either side of a flat screen, and is excellent for home theater. The floor height is perfect for a normal couch/chair seating position. In-room response is good all the way to the 25hz area. I measured the subwoofer/passive radiators/cabinet tuning to be 30hz. All drivers have been tested as 100% functioning with a Dayton Audio DATS test system. Always used in a pet/smoke/children-free home. From my response to someone who asked about the work I did to modify the speaker: When the first amp went out on me many years ago, DefTech sent me a replacement amp with detailed instructions on the replacement process. Other than having to wrestle a 65lb speaker without scratching it, the process was very simple. When I had to replace the second amp that failed, I did not need to read the directions again.(Ive actually built numerous home speakers from scratch as a serious hobby, starting in the 1970s. The 7.2 home theater system I built recently replaced my DefTech system.)When another DefTech amp then failed on me on for the third time, I knew I needed to find a better solution. The bottom of the speaker is removed with only 4 bolts to the granite base, and then 4 more for the bottom plate removal. A gasket for that plate keeps the cabinet air tight. The amps were held by 4 screws into the aluminum frame. I simply removed the amp, installed two banana plug speaker connectors through the aluminum cabinet below where the original two are, and connected the sub driver leads directly to those banana plug connectors. I did not touch or modify the connection to the upper drivers. All connections were verified with my Dayton Audio DATS tester (measures ohm readings over a frequency sweep). That DATS system also confirmed the 150hz crossover point needed. Now, the two upper banana plug connectors go directly to the upper mid/tweeter/mid drivers, and the lower two banana plug connectors go directly to the lower subwoofer, which has two passive radiators. I have the original amps if you want them but they are non-functional. Frankly, once you hear the system with a proper outboard amp, you would never go back to the wimpy little internal amp.
