Excellent condition, minor marks that do not affect playback, however, it may take one or two pushes of the open the CD tray but as shown in the video, plays fine and the compression control/ambience DAIR features can be used independently or together in any sequence. As with any vintage guaranteed working on arrival, after verification it works, thats as far as it goes as a warranty. See the other vintage pieces I have listed and thanks for looking! NO REMOTE A CD player with a sound quality design and sound effects. A 16-bit 4-times oversampling digital filter is installed as a digital filter, and a third order low-pass filter is installed as an analog filter. This digital filter has an attenuation of more than 76 dB in the stopband of more than 24.1 kHz and eliminates the center frequency of unwanted components to 176.4 kHz. This enables the low-pass filter to be reduced after D/A conversion. As a result, excellent phase characteristics and transient response characteristics are obtained, and resolution is also improved compared to the 14-bit type. The glitchless 16-bit high-speed linear D/A converter is mounted on the D/A converter section independently on the left and right sides. By making the left and right independent, there is no phase shift between channels, and excellent sound localization and high frequency reproduction capability are obtained. A 3-beam laser pickup using a newly developed lens is used in the pickup section. In this method, in addition to the main beam that reads the signal, two sub-beams detect the track shift of the main beam in real time and control it with a servomechanism. This reduces the influence of disc eccentricity, warpage, scratches and dirt, and realizes stable tracing capability. Equipped with three unique sound effects features of dbx, you can adjust D. A. I. R., Compress, and Ambience. In D. A. I. R. (Digital Audio Impact Recovery), this function emphasizes the missing peak component. Even in a wide dynamic range CD, the dynamic range of live music, especially sharp peaks, is suppressed during recording, and D. A. I. R. emphasizes only the instantaneous attack sound, which is the lost peak component, when recorded. It detects a sudden increase in the level of the music signal and gives a strong impact of up to 10 dB. The effect is made natural by the two band operation of high and low band. Compress reduces the dynamic range of a CD from more than 90 dB to a minimum of 60 dB by suppressing large sounds and raising small sounds. This function is useful for low-volume playback in noisy environments or at midnight. It is also ideal for BGM applications. The reduction operation is two band division same as D. A. I. R. The Ambience adjusts the stereo separation by adding and reducing the LR signal in the mid and high range to control the sense of sound spread. Turn the volume to the left to make it tight, and turn it to the right to increase the sense of sound spread. 16-track random program function, 1-track / All/A-B repeat function, skip search and index search function are equipped. Equipped with HF and LF 2-band point LED display Dinamics meter that can confirm the operation status of D. A. I. R. and Compress at a glance. Equipped with a touch control attenuator that can adjust the line-out level. Equipped with a headphone port with volume. I have had this unit since 1988 but it has very little use over the last 20 years. All the buttons lights and switches work but the on light does not. The Teac DX-8 was designed for use with the Teac / Tascam 80 - 8 multitrack tape machine. There was an automated switching system built into the Tape machine which worked with the DX-8 via a control cable which would decode and encode as to whenever the record or play button was used. The unit has been modified with a manual switching system which allows it to be used with any multitrack tape - note the chrome switches on the front panel. The use of the DX 8 elevated the quality of the Tascam 38 recordings from semi professional (as judged at the time) to a high quality noiseless professional standard. So this unit is very rare and unique - I expect the knowledge and expertise to design and modify the DX8 for universal use is even rarer than the unit itself! I have included some custom made recording studio looms which I used with the unit and the tape machine and a Soundcraft Analogue mixer which are photographed:16 x 16 Phono to Phono for in and out of the 8 Track / DX8 - 120cm8 x 8 1/4 Jack to Phono Mixer Buss out to to Record in - 8 x Phono out to 1/4 in to Channel and Monitor return at Mixer. Article from 1978 (£770 = £4k today!) : DX-8 dbx noise reduction moduleThis unit is available as an optional extra, but for any serious recording its really a must. The dbx system offers up to 30 dB of noise reduction each time you go on to and off tape, which means that more track bumping and remixes can be attempted before tape noise clouds the sound. Although no noise reduction system, including the more expensive Dolby A, can reduce tape and electronic noise to zero, every bit of reduction helps.To put it as briefly as possible, dbx works by compressing or encoding the signals before they are recorded, and expanding or decoding them as they are replayed off tape. The Teac DX-8 module incorporates eight channels of dbx noise reduction that can be switched to either encode or decode.Physically the module matches the 80-8 in width and depth; it even comes complete with wooden side panels for fixing to the tape machine. (The 80-8s panels are removed, it is sat on the DX-8 and the new panels form sides for the combined package.) On the rear of the module are four rows of eight phono sockets labelled encode out, encode in, input and output. The first row (encode out) are connected to the 80-8s input sockets with eight double-ended leads (supplied with the DX-8); the second row (encode in) to the machines output sockets with eight more leads; and the third and fourth respectively to the output and inputs of the mixer. In addition, an octal (8-pin) socket connects via a special lead to a strange edge-connector affair behind a removable panel on the rear of the 80-8. This lead supplies information about the mode of operation of each individual track.The front-panel has an on/off switch (and power indicator lamp) plus two rows of eight LEDs labelled encode and decode to show the status of each channel. When power is off, the inputs to the DX-8 are connected directly to the outputs, and the unit is inoperative. Turning on the unit causes the dbx system to come into operation. Now the mode of each track on the 80-8 — either record, replay or sync — will determine whether the signal to or from the machine has to be encoded or decoded. To give you an example, suppose we wish to record on tracks 1, 2 and 3 and listen in sync off the other five. Channels 1, 2 and 3 on the DX-8 will have to be switched to the encode mode, while the rest need to be in the decode mode to process the previously encoded signals coming off tape. Which is where the special lead connecting the DX-8 to the 80-8 comes into action. It automatically selects the status — encode or decode — of each channel of the noise reduction unit to suit the needs of each track. Very neat, and it does away with the operator having to work out what each channel on the DX-8 should be doing at any one time. Sadly, I am not that person.Other sellers are asking $30 and above just for the manual, so I figure this (mostly) working unit that needs some repair, with remote and manual is priced reasonably. As far as the sound filters, believe the hype! Specifically, the compression setting which makes CDs sound extremely warm and smooth. I sure wish I was able to fix this myself!!!
