Tested typical functions and appears to work well. Included video attempts to demonstrate how the dbx encoding/decoding adds clarity to music reproduction. What I failed to show is that it also virtually eliminates tape hiss. I discovered that after I made the video when I went back to listen to both recordings. The very beginning of the unaffected recording was jarring. So jarring that I went back to listen to the beginning of the affected track where that hiss was nearly absent. DBX 224X-DS Tape Noise Reduction System

dbx 224x Type II Tape/disc Noise Reduction System. Functional, used condition. The DBX model 224 has two channels of encode and two channels of decode processing, and is thus capable of simultaneous recording and off-tape monitoring of a stereo program. This DBX Type II system provides in excess of 30 dB broadband tape noise reduction with a simultaneous 10 dB improvement in headroom in the tape recording process. The unit is fully compatible with all other DBX Type II units, including the 120 series and 140 series. In order to yield the benefits of the noise reduction; any playback through the unit would have need to have been recorded originally using dbx Type II NR to encode the tape. The recording can then be played through the decoder and then provides the 30db of noise reduction possible with the system.

I bought this unit for my stereo system over 15 years ago and never ended up hooking it up. I no longer have my system, so Im unable to test the unit. Buy at your own risk. Sold as untested.
