Tested typical functions and appears to work well. Included video attempts to demonstrate how the dbx encoding/decoding adds clarity to music reproduction. What I failed to show is that it also virtually eliminates tape hiss. I discovered that after I made the video when I went back to listen to both recordings. The very beginning of the unaffected recording was jarring. So jarring that I went back to listen to the beginning of the affected track where that hiss was nearly absent. In the control signal path, the dbx Type II process rolls off the high and low-frequency response to desensitize the system to frequency response errors since theroll-offisonlyin the control path, it doesnotaffect the audible sound. The dbx Type-II disc setting on consumer dbx decoders adds an additional 13dB of low-frequency roll-off in both the audio path and control path. This protects the system from audible mistracking due to record warps and low-frequency rumble.
