This cartridge is in great operational and cosmetic condition, the sound is detailed, fast, and dynamic, stylus still sharp, cantilever and suspension is also in excellent condition. Van Den Hul Colibri XPW Cartridge, rare platinum coil cartridge, African Black Wood Grenadille, original box. This is one of the most exclusive cartridge ever made. The Van den Hul Colibri XPW with 0,35 mV output platinum coils is completely hand built from the finest materials in the world. The platinum coils are from the most pure platinum available, 99,9999 % laboratory quality.Van den Hul used this body to build this top flagship of all his cartridges at the time. Only premium parts were used and very pure platinum coils. This has resulted in a cartridge that will give the highest analogue performance possible. With an output of 0,38 mV measured at 5.6 sec/cm and a recommended phono load of 500 Ohm, you will need a phono MC amp that gives minimal 55 db gain. The result is a very neutral, musical and engaging sound that reaches the limits of what is possible in analogue reproduction. VDH no longer makes this type of platinum coil cartridge due to the extremely high cost. The Colibri is the improved successor to our Grasshopper “Beauty” series of phono cartridges where many building components have been removed in a highly successful quest to return to the plain essence of phono transduction.
