I picked this up at estate sale. When I got it home noticed rattling inside. So like any man would do I opened it up. I found a cd moving around in it. The unit powers on and everything but the drawer only opens randomly when I push open button. The wood grain pieces are missing off front sides as seen in pictures. I did make a short video of it opened up so if you go to link below you can see inside and also the drawer opening and closing a few times. Sony CDP-C77ES 5-disc carousel CD changer in VG condition. Unit has been tested and is functioning properly. Player reads discs and registers discs quickly. Playback is fantastic, as is the norm for the ES (Elevated Standard) line. Unit reads burnt discs (CDRs) smoothly as well. Laser seems to be very strong. Digital display is bright & clear. All front panel functions are working properly. Line Out control works well-I cleaned the pot and it is free of static. CD drawer opens & shuts smoothly. Unfortunately, unit is missing the remote. Because of this, I was unable to test the Line Out controls motorized assist. (I do guarantee it to work). Cosmetically, unit looks great and shows minimal wear. The only visible blemishes are a few scattered scratches on cabinet top (see pics). Front panel and simulated wood end caps look beautiful. End cap edges & corners are crisp and free of dings. Power cord is fully intact. Unit is guaranteed to arrive in described condition. Please test & inspect upon receiving and notify me directly if there are any issues. CD player will be packaged securely (double box/plenty of cushioning/etc).

They were very expensive at the time and made of high quality components because the technology was still new. Production hadn’t move to low cost regions yet. Nor had the quality deteriorated. This unit is in beautiful cosmetic condition. No dents or scratches - very presentable. 9.8/10The unit is clean inside and out and plays perfectly. I’ve owned the unit for the last 10 yrs and it’s been used on a semi-regular basis. My main CD player is a Denon also made in Japan from 1991. This comes from a clean, non-smoking home and is ready for use. I will demo the player before purchase. I will have it set up with a receiver and speakers. No remote, no box, no instructions. Just the CD player. NOTE: These ES models were the top-of-the-line models by Sony - they considered them “audiophile grade”. This unit will occasionally lock up when trying to change CDs - maybe 1 out of 30 times. And sometimes the tray doesn’t open and power has to be cycled on and off. It could probably use new belts - that might solve some of the issues. These units are known to be a little finicky sometimes - thus I have a lower price on it. Yard sale find. The extent of my testing ability is that I can tell you it powers on just fine. Buttons seem to work. The cd tray seems like it doesn’t always want to slide in all the way.
