Very hard to find especially in this condition! Tested and plays great. Sounds very smooth. Sony came out with their first CD player, CDP 101, in 1980 in Europe and a year later in the US. After that Sony spent the next several decades improving and miniaturizing their CD players. Today, CD players in miniature can be found in computer CD ROM players and are no big deal. Back in the 1980s, small size was a very big deal! Sonys first miniature player appears to have been the CDP S11 which was first sold in 1983. It was quite large measuring 14 x 3.7 x 13.4. Sonys second miniature player was the CDP 7F which came out in 1985. This very small and cute 7F was offered as a stand alone book shelf CD player or as an add on to the FH Boombox (FH-7?). The 7F is rather rare and seldom shows up for sale. It has a high quality case that has a brushed metal front and very little plastic. It is a top loading CD player with the top popping up to accept the CD. It measured only 8.5 W, 9.5 D, and 2 H. On the back is a switch to select 120 or 220 volt power. The 7F uses a 16 single bit Sony dac (CX-20133) time shared between channels, a couple TL082 opamps as integrators, dual triple stage LPF and NEC4570dual opamps for the output. It produces a smooth analog sound which is quite surprising. The laser is the KSS-121A which sells alone for over $100 today. Like all of Sonys bookshelf players, the 7F produces good sound while keeping the number of parts to a minimum. A top of the line player, it is not, but it offers very good sound from a very small package for the time. The warm analog sound seen from Sonys early CD players. These early miniature Sony CD players created much competition from the various CD player companies to design, engineer, and sell small miniature players such as the Yamaha CD X1, Toshiba XR-9458, Emerson CD 150A, Realistic CD 3000 amongst others. This miniature CD player competition led to the later wildly successful Sony portable Walkman series. The same inexpensive parts and layout was used for years. Sony is a master of using a design over and over again and just giving a little face lift to new models. These early players were revolutionary in the development of small portable players and are an interesting part of Sonys early miniaturization efforts.
