Dass dies eine ziemliche Fehleinschätzung ist, zeigt ein Blick unter die Haube. Die große Hauptplatine ist völlig identisch zum hoch- gelobten Marantz CD65-MkII, inklusive dem klassischen Chipsatz mit SAA7220 und TDA1541. Zur zweiten Generation der 1541-Player gehörend, gibt es nicht mehr die Differenzierung in diverse Servo- und Decoder- Boards, sondern die gesamte Elektronik findet Platz auf einer einzigen Platine. Deren Layout ist frei von Kinderkrankheiten, eben ausgereift. Im Philips 473 verrichtet ein CDM2-Laufwerk seinen Dienst. Das klassische Schwenkarm-Konstrukt ist ein nahezu unkaputtbarer Dauerläufer und punktet bei der mechanischen Qualität, denn die Laufwerksbasis mit dem Schwenkarm ist noch deutlich näher dran am Original CDM1 (Vollmetall) als die spätere CDM4-Variante aus Kunststoff. The draw mechanism works smoothly, very quick to read and play the disc. The display is nice and bright, there is a drop panel, where additional features can be accessed. Features the regular RCA outputs as well as digital coax. The laser is a swing assembly which need to be secured for transport to prevent damage while shipping; the red plastic transport screws are on the base, these are vital and will be locked.
