Magnavox FD1040 [Philips 104 analog] has the second generation CDM-1 CD play mechanism. It uses two TDA1540 series DAC chips.Many online reviewers comment positively about the more analog like nature of sound from the TDA1540 series DAC chips and the quality of the early manufactured CDM-1 CD mechanism.This FD1040 stopped reading CDs and CD-Rs during its pre-auction testing phase. Initially it read both CDs and CD-Rs normally without skipping or error. After multiple test sessions over several days, it stopped reading discs. When it was playing discs, only one channel had sound [red RCA plug], though it was clear and clean, good sound. The other channel had very low volume, potentially feed-through from the good channel.In summary, currently it doesnt read CDs, though days ago it did, albeit it played music in one channel only.Selling for repair or parts as is.No returns.
