This Sony CAV-CVS12ES component video switcher has a number of video problems and is offered as-is. All zone outputs have a glitch type noise when passing 1080i or 1080p component video signals. The noise manifests as if some video lines begin later than others, causing horizontal shifts in certain lines that vary over time and depending on picture content (see last picture in listing). This issue seems to disappear when the signal source is set to 720p or below. Additionally, the zone 6 output appears to be completely dead. All source inputs and outputs with the exception of source 11 have been tested and are functional, albeit with some horizontal jittering type noise that appears in a stripe about 2/3 down the picture (unique from the glitching type noise on the zone outputs). This noise is present on all working source outputs regardless of video resolution, but it does not appear to be present on the zone outputs. Source 11 input and output seem to be completely dead. Both front panel rotary encoders are working reliably and all LEDs illuminate when selected. The serial port, serial pass-through, IR remote input port, and four source assignment rotary switches on the back were NOT tested. Please note that in order to use the zone outputs, you will need a CAV-CVB1 active video balun and a cat5e/6 cable. These are not included.

This Sony CAV-CVS12ES component video switcher is partially functional and has several dead zone outputs. It is offered as-is. Of the 12 zone outputs, only 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12 produce an output. For each of these working zone outputs, all 12 source inputs were tested and confirmed to be able to route to each of the working zone outputs. Additionally, every source output port has been tested and is functioning. Given that the signal routing seems to work for all inputs, we suspect that the dead zone outputs may be due to failed EL5370IUZ differential line drivers (now obsolete), however this has not been investigated further. Component inputs were tested with a 1080p video signal. Composite inputs were tested with a standard NTSC composite video signal. Both front panel rotary encoders are working reliably and all LEDs illuminate when selected. The serial port, serial pass-through, IR remote input port, and four source assignment rotary switches on the back were NOT tested. Please note that in order to use the zone outputs, you will need a CAV-CVB1 active video balun and a cat5e/6 cable. These are not included. The top of the unit has numerous scratches, but the faceplate is in overall good condition. Most of the scratches will not be visible if this is used in a rack with equipment above it.
