There is no useless info here, so please spend a couple minutes to read ALL of it before spending $1500. Overall this Cary tube amp is in very good condition WITH a couple issues. I purchased this recently with the intention to sell it and am by no means an expert when it comes to tube amps. I powered it on and all the tubes on the top lit up (see pics), but I could never get the 2 green cats eyes tubes to light up. From what I understand they are for aesthetics only and not nearly as expensive to replace - that assumes the issue is the tubes. As for the other tubes, I have no way of knowing how many hours they have been in use. When I first took the amp out of the box, I noticed a rattling sound from inside...which is why I took the bottom off. I figured Id take pics since I was already in there. The rattling sound came from the small piece of metal that I think is the quick release for the speaker(?) wire output on the back of the unit - I have no idea how it ended up inside the metal housing. I will send that loose piece (see pics) with the amp. I connected a receiver & some speakers to the amp and the playthrough sounded smooth - no static or anything like that. I have not done any tinkering or working on this unit other than to find & remove the rattling piece out of the housing and give it a good cleaning. I totally get that it is often way more work to undo someones fixes than to just deal with issues. So to recap (no pun intended), the 2 issues I have found are the cats eyes tubes and the quick release button....and, I guess the lack of knowledge about hours on the current tubes. It will come in its original box, but the top protection piece (cardboard?) is missing. I will ship it well protected and double boxed. The glass tubes are all wrapped & numbered from where they came from (dont know if that matters). Cary Tube Audio Amplifier CAD 808 Rocket 88 Used Vintage. Being sold as part of an estate sale. This is working. Ive tested it myself. Probably the nicest sounding amplifier Ive ever had access to. Theres some caveats, however. While the piece is completely functional, the previous owner seems to have broken the small insulating nub on the bottom of all the EL34 tubes included. He was, however, kind enough to indicate with marker the front of each of these tubes so that they could be safely inserted by the operator without malfunction. And while they still function in this state, I would advise the purchaser to replace them at the first opportunity. Update 3/13/24I checked the item at the behest of a customer and unbeknownst to me the head of an audio lead had been left in the bias jack. I had mistakenly assumed this was a grounding lead. Removed, both channels are running loud and clear. When I get a chance, Ill try to update the photos. The front lights also fully illuminate, which I had neglected to mention before. This will ship fully insured as part of the cost of the piece.

I bought this brand new from Cary in 2003 and it until now has been in storage for the past 10 years. The only blemish I can find is a super small spot of discoloration on the Cary label which is on the power transformer. This amp puts out 20 watts per channel in Triode mode / 40 watts per channel in Ultralinear. I sent it to Cary in 2005 and had it upgraded to utilize the 12BZ7 tubes instead of the 6922 tubes. You can use both 12BZ7s or 12AX7s if youd like... The BZs sound best though. Comes with 2x Electro-Harmonix EL84 tubes, 2x RCA 12BZ7 tubes and 4x Ruby KT88 tubes. As for the output tubes....You can use the EL-34, 6L6, 6550, KT-66, KT-77, KT-88 or KT-90 flavors. The two 1629 Green Eye tubes on the front plate are mesmerizing to watch, They display the power output. The 12BZ7s come with silicone dampers installed. I am going to drop this amp off at Mojotronix for a once-over where it will get a thorough check-up (Pots, Jacks, Contacts, Tube sockets cleaned, Caps checked, Tubes checked, Confirm all components working at spec, Bias the output tubes). I am having this service performed because the amp has sat idle for the past decade AND I want to assure the next owner years of trouble free operation. Comes as shown with the tubes mentioned above and the cable for setting the tube bias. This amp is heavy... 50lbs! I will double box it and use Insta-Pak foam to assure a safe delivery to you.
