Understand that this used vintage amplifier is being sold as-is or for parts. Important Notes: Over the years I have performed several modifications to solve the unreliable dedicated speaker protection circuit & final output relay as follows:1) After several tries repairing the dedicated circuit, I disabled the circuit, effectively removing this circuit function from operation of the power amplifier.2) After years of fooling around with poor relay contacts, I hard-wire bypassed the relay.3) Therefore, speaker safety can be an issue. My opinion is that of the 3 internal replaceable fuses, the 2 fuses that control high voltage to the power amplifier audio circuits offer some speaker protection in event of catastrophic amplifier failure. One can also insert in-line fuses to their speakers if so concerned. A Final Note: The power-on and power-off behavior (without the speaker output relay) is very well behaved, meaning, barely a click or thump. I have used this amplifier in this configuration for over 10 years & compared it with several other much more expensive amplifiers I own. This Carver always surprises me. My most recent use was driving Magnepan MG.7 speakers with authority and wonderful sound. This amplifier should be considered by folks experienced with repair of vintage audio electronics equipment. Bench Tested with HP Test Equipment:- Power output into 6 ohms, both channels driven, just before clipping: 89 watts RMS.- Channel balance just before clipping: Less than 0.3 dB difference (with both level controls at max).- Frequency response at 1 watt output, 20Hz to 20KHz: Less than 0.4 dB deviation.- DC offsets, cold power-on & after 30 minutes at 10 watts output: Less than 30 mV.- Note photos, meters track accurately to 89 watts output continuous. At 10 watts output, both channels continuous, for 30 minutes, amplifier temperature is not an issue. In my use for typical moderate volume classical & jazz music, this amplifier runs cool. This listing includes the following item:- Carver TFM-15 Power Amplifier, with modifications as described above. Photos are of the actual item listed. Condition:- External cosmetics are good, with scratches on both side panels & top panel.- Front panel cosmetics are excellent.- Meters are accurate with internal light bulbs operational.- Inside of bottom panel has some rusting on right side around heat sinks.- Holes in rear panel were from different speaker terminals no longer installed.- All original rear panel jacks & front panel controls operational.
