I dont know a lot about this line of products but all other manual listings I found were for a different model so given the age this is likely an early one. From the shelf library of a now closed electronics shop and not something that comes along every day.

I purchased this new back in the early 80s. I have loved what it does to your music! I have since replaced it with another Carver Pre-amp that has the Sonic Holography built into it. Carver Sonic Hologram Generator Model C-9. 2X SOLD AS PAIR Was enjoying what these can do to music played through speakers. Unfortunately I tried running them both in serial and now something is wrong and the sonic holography is not hitting the same. Although they still function, I know there is something up so I cannot sell them as working units. Hopefully someone with some knowledge of electronics can get these to sing again.
