Its the Carver HR-895, which has four stunning features besides Dolby Pro Logic. They are Sonic Holography (a way of improving the realism of the sound over some kinds of speakers), a center-channel audio signal, a vastly improved FM tuner circuit that let me pull in stations more than 80 miles away, and a remote with a zillion buttons. The HR-895 has only one drawback -- the price. It lists for a whopping $1,600. Its not hard to see where part of that megabuck cost goes, since the Carver has four powerful amplifiers and a sophisticated switching system that lets you record on one VCR while you are watching a tape from another one, but a receiver that costs as much as eight typical CD players is plainly out of the reach of most of us. On the other hand, if you have not yet purchased a hi-fi system and can afford the price of entry, the Carver HR-895 would make an excellent combination unit. It has all the functions of an amplifier, tuner, control center, audio-video switching box and surround-sound adaptor -- and does it all without a fuss. The sound quality from regular hi-fi sources is first-rate, especially when the Sonic Holography circuit is switched in, but its the Dolby Pro Logic that captivates me every time I turn this big receiver on. The latest video movies recorded with Pro Logic pass my blind listening test easily -- the soundtracks still seem realistic even when I close my eyes. Try that with regular movie soundtracks, and youll probably find the sound falls flat without visual cues.

Carver Model C-11 Sonic Holography Preamplifier, Remote Volume, BillD modifications, Balanced outputs Excellent used condition * BillD Modifications, exceptions being the line and phono op-amps are changed to new TI 4136 units. * Regulated +/-12V power supplies * Remote volume using high quality Matsushita NOS stereo pot (LED flashes when pot motor is running!) * Balanced outputs via 1/4 TRS jacks The BillD caps and resistors were installed about two months ago. The remote volume control and balanced outputs were added more recently. Some wear consistent with age. Some scratches on the inside top edge of the faceplate, not visible from the front view. Please review pics for details. Covers are in very good condition.

Offered for sale is a complete working stereo in excellent condition. The system involves the analog equipment M1.5 amp, C1 preamp, TX 11 tuner with a Torx antenna, and Carver CD player. The digital plane is the Apple iMac running Lion so you can get access to iTunes on the radio function for free. Later versions of the Apple OSX involve a paid subscription. This rig is set up for free iTunes. A Torx FM antenna feeds the TX-11 tuner. The KEF speakers are in excellent condition. Now comes the hard part. I have set up an Ipod 16Gig to be programmed with 5000 songs from my iMac, burned in with no restrictions. Per Apple guidelines these are worth .1 to .1.0 per song. I am not giving this away and need a buyer to make inquiry to purchase my library of songs. This is a complete working system that sounds excellent. The only flaw is that the Carver CD player door does not open, discounted in the price. Bid accordingly and please send emails to the iPod library which is Classic Rock, 60s, 70s, 80s, classic Jazz, C&W, and classical.All cables included for a 15 minute set up.
