An amplifier is the heart of any hi-fi system and ours - What Hi-Fi?’s ‘Best Stereo Amplifier’ two years running – is hugely entertaining. With those 60 watts of power comes 4 analogue, 3 digital and optional Bluetooth inputs so your connectivity is sorted too. Designing the CXA60 was a challenge that was accepted with open arms by our engineers. We wanted an amp that sounded more musical and energetic than anything we’ve made before. They beavered away for months and after some particularly late nights they eventually nailed it. To achieve this they used some unique engineering techniques, some very premium components, and some great ears for detail. We’ve used an audiophile-grade toroidal transformer which helps minimise magnetic flux levels. This basically keeps distortion and other noise levels low so that your music is played back with complete purity. We also centrally mount the transformer to reduce interference with other components in the circuit board such as the volume pot; this is in a further effort to keep your music sounding amazing. As for the volume pot itself, we’ve used an ALPs film type volume pot which delivers accurate volume control and superb low level channel balance so the volume is always perfectly controlled across both left and right channels at whatever volume you’re enjoying. The refined circuit board layout also minimises the interference (crosstalk) between the left and right stereo channels so each stays independent and unaffected by the other. This results in a lifelike sound stage where you can virtually place each instrument in the room - just like being at a live show! We achieve this by using symmetrical and separated circuit paths and by entirely separating out the left and right heat sinks. This is only normally engineered into amplifiers costing many times more so the performance you get out of the CXA60 is incredible at this price. The full 60 watts of power also comes from class AB amplification. Class AB delivers very little crossover distortion so your music sounds purer and more controlled. The CXA60 was designed to work with digital sources from the outset so has a 24-bit Wolfson WM8740 DAC (a very premium digital to analogue converter) built in. Building on the award winning foundation of the CXA60, the CXA80 adds an extra 20watts of power giving 80watts of pure precision which creates a strikingly vivid soundstage. Rated at 80 Watts per channel the CXA80 has power in reserve for even the most demanding speakers. But its the way in which this power is delivered that puts the CXA80 completely out of reach from its competitors. The entire internal layout is designed to minimize left and right interference (crosstalk) and provide astonishing stereo separation so you can virtually place each instrument in your room. It has symmetrical and separate transformer taps for the left and right channels, twin rectifiers and separate PSUs. When combined together these dual mono features deliver incredible presence and depth to your music and a wide, enveloping soundstage thats normally only available in amplifiers costing many times more. Our engineers spent months to create the unique separated circuit board because they knew it would eventually provide the sound they wanted. As for power they were similarly insistent on sticking to what they knew would deliver. They used a class AB amplifier to minimise crossover distortion so music sounds purer and more controlled.
