Dabei hat Cambridge Audio aber keineswegs die Laufwerkssektion vernachlässigt. Die selber entwickelten Servoschaltkreise für die Spur- und Fokusregelung sitzen unter einem Kupferdach. Ein Netzfilter und zahlreiche Stabilisierungen mit besonders verlustarmen Siebkondensatoren garantieren eine reine Stromversorgung. Der 740 C musizierte lupenrein und schlackenfrei und rang sogar datenreduzierten MP3-Vorlagen das Maximum an Auflösung ab.
