The Series 80 Model 808 was the result of a request by Dr. Nakamichi (Yes, that Nakamichi) for B&W to create a reference monitor that was an expansion of the capabilities of the Model 801 speaker introduced in 1979. The 808s were released in 1984. This pair was purchased in 1989 by a Los Angeles based arranger, composer, conductor of large ensemble jazz, choral and classical music. He was the only owner and they are part of the estate being sold for his beneficiary.In the specifications presented by Nakamichi, there were 3 specific things written.First, the flat frequency characteristics should be used to eliminate the colorization in the same way as in 801F toachieve an ultra-low distortion rate. Second, the efficiency should be twice that of 801F to obtain 91 db at 1Winput power. Finally, the maximum sound pressure obtained in the listening room should be on the order of 120db (125 db at peak).While I cannot attest to the measured performance of this pair, I can say that they are very articulate and correct in the Mids and Highs and have prodigious output in the low end. You can see the space they were tested/burned-in in the pictures, so, making judgments about the low end was difficult.As seen in the pictures the original decoupling spikes are included as well as the original Instruction manual and product release flyers. B&W 808 Speakers in excellent working condition, all components work great. The cabinets have some scratches, marks and other imperfections, one of the grills has some holes, also some jumpers of one of the speakers are missing. Please check the photos for details
