And dont forget, you can click this link to quickly add and then save me to your favorite seller list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online.Heres a 1942 Zenith 7G605 Trans Oceanic shortwave radio, better known as the Bomber because of its distinctive grill cloth design, introduced on this set shortly after the United States entered the Second World War.Condition of the radio is excellent. In fact, its one of the nicest examples of this collectible radio that Ive ever seen. The grill is original, clean, and undamaged; the chart is clean, the metal surfaces are clean, the chassis is pristine, the leather case covering is beautiful, and the antenna is full length, with no damage or repairs -- it just doesnt get much better than this. The radio works, plays clearly, sounds good (see video Ive posted above), but the antenna circuit needs some tweaking and/or adjustment. According to the owners manual, the radio is supposed to tune AM broadcasts with the rod antenna lowered and the wave magnet tucked inside the back of the case. When I tested the radio, however, I was only able to get it to tune AM broadcasts by lowering the back of the case, so that the wave magnet was not in close proximity to the chassis. If I raised the back of the case toward the chassis, the station would start to fade out. Short wave broadcasts werent as problematic. At night, I could tune short wave stations on the top two buttons by raising the rod antenna and keeping the wave magnet tucked closed to the chassis. I really dont understand the nature of the quirky reception, so Im offering the radio for historical and/or collectible purposes only, with no other assurances stated or implied. If you want to get the radio operating according to the original spec, youre going to need to go through it and make some adjustments, or send it out to someone who knows how to go through it. Includes its original owners manual. Please note: The cover latches are original and in good condition, but they have some play, and they need to be firmly clasped in position in order to hold the front and back covers in place. Also, the leather carrying handle is original, but its worn where the hardware holds it in place. Accordingly, it is not suitable for carrying the radio around, and it should be considered at this point to be decorative only, not functional. Thats about it. Rest assured it will arrive at your home in the same fine condition in which it leaves mine.
