Simplified compared to the 4000, it was cheaper to produce, if not buy, but maintained a very similar performance. In terms of concept, performance and technical design, this record player was very much ahead of its time. All functions were governed by computer-like logic circuits. You just pressed START, that was all. Through the unique detector arm (parallel to the pickup arm) these circuits could judge the size of the record, determine its normal playing speed and instruct the pick-up arm to lower the stylus into the lead-in groove. The unit utilised a belt drive system to control the record deck. Thanks to the incorporation of advanced electronics, several advantages were gained from this new concept in record-players: high specification, supreme automation of all functions and the most gentle treatment of records. The tangential arm moved the pick-up in a straight line towards the centre of the record, reducing tracking error to a mere 0.04%. Simplified compared to the 4000, it was cheaper to produce, if not buy, but maintained a very similar performance. In terms of concept, performance and technical design, this record player was very much ahead of its time. All functions were governed by computer-like logic circuits. You just pressed START, that was all. Through the unique detector arm (parallel to the pickup arm) these circuits could judge the size of the record, determine its normal playing speed and instruct the pick-up arm to lower the stylus into the lead-in groove. Within a few seconds you would hear the music. If there was no record on the platter the stylus could not be lowered, so the system was safe as well as simple. Bang Olufsen /B&O -beogram 4000 /tangential Turntable. Been in storage for some time and it won’t power on. It’s beyond my capabilities to diagnose any problem so is sold as seen. It also requires a stylus. Cosmetically it’s in nice shape the lid only has very minor scratching. The metal work and wooden plinth is also good order with only very minor marks. It would benefit from a good deep clean and a service, as stated it has been in storage for a number of years. It weighs a tonne so that’s the best I can do with postage but it will be insured for peace of mind. It will be shipped with care and to the best of my ability.

The electronically-controlled tangential arm played the record exactly as it was recorded.The tone arm was suspended in a special Optimum Pivot Point system that prevented vibrations from reaching the MMC2 cartridge which has a stylus pressure of only 1g for minimal friction. And Bang & Olufsens special chassis suspension prevented external vibrations from reaching the platter. This deck has a brand new Soundsmith phonographic cartridge SMMC4 which cost £190 , the deck has a new drive belt fitted and works as it should . I would prefer you picked this deck up to reduce any chance of damage This is advertised locally as well
