Vintage Bang And Olufsen B&O Beocord 2000 Type 2922 Dolby Cassette Tape Deck. Untested so listed as spares or repair only. Vintage cassette deck in superb cosmetic condition. Previous owner had bought it new and all of their equipment had been really well looked after. There’s barely a mark on it. The lift up flap to operates as intended and the springs / mechanism seem to be in good working order. Not tested beyond that. Here’s some additional information from the Beoworld website… BeoCord 2000 Cassette Deck Manufactured: 1983 - 1987 Designer: Jacob Jensen Colours: Metal Grey, Aluminium Designed as a perfect match, both physically and technically, for the Beomaster 2000, this advanced slim-line cassette deck was nonetheless a serious hi-fi product in its own right, combining a high-performance specification with supreme ease of operation. Despite its unassuming appearance, Beocord 2000 contained a full pay-load of advanced circuitry plus a few extra features rarely found in cassette decks within this price frame. The primary controls - those concerned with tape movement - were totally electronic and designed on the Sensitouch principle. There were no knobs to turn or keys to press; a light fingertip touch was sufficient to activate any function. Ferric, chrome or metal tapes could be used, and Dolby B noise reduction was included to ensure clean, hiss-free recordings. A clearly calibrated scale and input slider, together with large Peak Programme Meter, made it quick and easy to set accurate recording levels. These controls were placed adjacent to the cassette tray beneath a hinged lid which sprang open at a touch. Beocord 2000's built-in microcomputer made operation fast and foolproof. It was possible to switch directly between any and all tape transport modes without harming the tape, the mechanism or the motor. Microcomputer intelligence also opened the way for additional control functions that contributed in a very practical way to daily enjoyment of taped music. A NEXT control allowed for easy track location (tape scan): one touch fast winds the tape to the next signal gap and plays the following track - automatically. So if you wanted to hear, for example, track number 5, just touch-and-wait four times and the place would be found for you. Similarly, you could repeat play-back of a favourite track up to five times with just a single touch. It's such a convenient way of listening to exactly what you want, when you want. Beocord 2000 had a socket for data-link connection to Beomaster 2000 so that direct switching was possible between Beomaster, Beogram and Beocord in the Beosystem 2000. The deck could also be data-linked to Beomaster 5000 or Beomaster 6000, when all tape functions could be operated via the receiver's remote control system. Beocord 2000 could be made up as part of the Beosystem 2000, when linked together with other compatible Bang & Olufsen products. It was also part of Beosystem 3000 if that is how you wished to use it. This is actually in pretty nice shape. I plugged it in and tried two different blank cassettes. You can hear the machine power up and engage, but I dont see the tape moving at all no matter what I try. Power cord is in good shape. This doesnt look abused at all. The lights under the volume indicators also illuminated. When picking this up and moving it around I can hear some loose pieces inside, and some pieces of hard foam have fallen out of the hole in the bottom. These have perished due to age and would likely need replacing internally wherever they are.

This is a beautiful example of a superbly designed cassette deck from the iconic Bang & Olufsen designed by Jacob Jensen and sold between 1985 and 1986. The Beocord 2000 was the first to incorporate the ‘Vortex’ tape transport, which allowed electronic control via touch sensitive controls on the machine itself and through the ‘Datalink’, which brought with it remote control when used with compatible equipment, including the Beomaster series. As well as its spectacular aesthetics, this is a serious piece of HiFI equipment that combines high sonic performance with ease of use. These days, it’s impossible to buy a new cassette deck with a comparable specification - companies have stopped manufacturing high-quality mechanisms and Dolby no longer licences their noise reduction systems for cassette tapes. This deck has been fully tested and professionally serviced, including replacing all three drive belts with high quality parts that match factory specification (we source our belts from a specialist supplier and don’t use the cheap generic belt sets often sold on eBay). This has transformed the performance of the deck by dramatically improving the wow and flutter. The servicing work also included cleaning the switches and testing and cleaning the internal electrical contacts. The electrical alignment has been checked, using a test cassette, oscilloscope, signal generator and external level meters. This process includes setting the recording levels, playback levels, meter calibration, bias and tape speed. The tape transport has been tested, cleaned and demagnetised. It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance, and comes fitted with a standard UK mains plug that meets modern standards and has the correct rated fuse fitted. The input and output from this deck are via a 5/7 pin DIN plug, connected with a built-in cable. It can be used in 7-pin mode with compatible B&O equipment, providing remote control operation. The two extra pins can also be removed to allow the Beocord 2000 to be used with equipment that requires a standard line level 5-pin DIN connection. If you wish to use this deck with a system that uses standard L/R RCA connectors, this is also possible with an adapter cable - please get in touch for further advice if you would like to go down this route. Cosmetically, this deck is in excellent condition and looks superb with only minor signs of use, visible in certain lighting conditions.
