This DAC is also a source selector and motorized volume control, replacing audio preamps or souce selectors in a high end audio system. The Benchmark is a studio reference piece with a lower noise floor and higher dynamic range than most of the consumer grade DACs. The Benchmark is in a different class than consumer products. in terms of jitter, digital artifact rejection, and analog conversion.I ran my CD player and digital streaming device connected digitally to the DAC1 HDR and switched sources using the DAC, eliminating my preamp.
