Description
Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage SEAS model 25F-WB 10 inch woofers, manufactured in Norway in 1978. They were removed from my Bang & Olufsen Beovox M75 four-way monitor speakers. These quality bass drivers may be correct for other B&O models from this production era, but the buyer is responsible for accurately assessing their suitability for their speakers. So, please see my large photos, the measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if these outstanding SEAS woofers are correct for your needs. This pair of SEAS woofers is in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy paper cones and voice coil dustcaps are both flawless. Plus, the black-enameled cast magnesium baskets are in great shape with no dings or scratches noted, just the expected faint scuffs around some mount holes as pictured. Also, the +/- terminals are keyed for polarity (red gasket side is positive) and I’ve retained a few inches of the input wires soldered to the terminals for the next owner’s convenience in retrofitting to their speakers. Most importantly, the aged original polyurethane foam suspension was just replaced with modern polyether foam surrounds specifically designed for this uncommon woofer platform. The main drawback to most U.S. and foreign-made speakers from the early 1970’s to 1990’s was the use of foam surrounds for woofer cone suspension. Though foam offers better excursion than coated linen and rubber, it invariably rots and/or disintegrates in 10-20 years no matter what climate you live in. These SEAS woofers were no exception—the surrounds had dried and stiffened, were cracked throughout, and broke from the lightest finger touch. Woofers in this condition should not be played. Some of you have replaced speaker surrounds before, so you know that it’s a time-consuming process that takes a great deal of patience and a steady hand. First, I cleaned the cone edges and basket flanges to remove the old gummy foam and stubborn factory adhesives, which takes some time to do thoroughly, and then glued the inner surrounds to the cones. Next, I glued the outer surround lips to the basket flanges after careful voice coil centering to verify no rubbing or distortion during play. Now these woofers are in great shape once again; perhaps even better than new with the improved polyether foam surrounds of today! They were fully tested after refoaming and sound terrific with strong, clear low frequency coverage extending well into midrange (as tested without a crossover shutting down their upper limit). Plus, I tested their DC resistance at a perfectly-matched 3.5? each, consistent with a nominal 4 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 10¼” diameter, they stand 3½” tall (not incl. the surround roll), and the six mount holes are equally spaced 3?” apart, c-t-c. This is a great find for someone that has foam-rotted, blown, or otherwise damaged woofers in their B&O Beovox M75 or other suitable model—your cherished speakers will be playing at their best once again! As pictured and described, this pair of SEAS 10” woofers, made for B&O, with painstakingly refurbished surrounds is offered at a competitive price.
