B&W Bowers & Wilkins Matrix 803 Series 2 Speakers in Walnut From what we consider the Golden era of B&W, or at least our favorite era of B&W, we have a gorgeous pair of the Matrix 803 Series 2 speakers with consecutive serial numbers. We love this era of B&W due to the fact that the speakers sound so natural, and are non fatiguing. This pair is still set up in one of our house systems. They just sound amazing. Physically, the speakers are in overall excellent condition. The cabinets have only minor blemishes and no dents, dings, or deep scratches. The grills are in very good condition as well. One of the grills has a small mark in the fabric on the upper right side, and few marks on the right aluminum side piece on the same grill. There are closeups in the pictures on this listing. Both tweeters, while in perfect working order, had the front tabs that clip the front of the tweeter into its bracket break off. (a common issue with these vintage tweeters). We use a small piece of Blue Tack to hold them in place. We will include some Blue Tack with the speakers. The tweeters will be removed for shipping. To install, simply plug them in, and set them in their cradles on the speaker. For further details, see the many pictures in the listing. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. We dont have the original boxes for these speakers, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. I paid what I felt was a reasonable price for them, considering the condition. I couldnt find a lot of information about them, except for some threads scattered throughout forums discussing their heritage and lineage. It seems that overall theyre a great product from B&W. Based on what I could find, retail for these was around $4000 in the early 90s. Not chump change, thats for sure. Also, the Matrix cabinet is interesting technology. They are musical with a rich midrange and a nice, clear treble. The bass is quite nice too. I think a lot of this is attributed to the dead cabinets thanks to the Matrix technology. The knuckle test shows the cabinets are about as dead as can be. Overall, the sound they produce is excellent. They are one of the better loudspeakers Ive had through the stable and Ive had a lot. If you see a pair at a reasonable price and want to get yourself into some higher end sound, these are worth getting. Just like large subwoofers honestly. These can probably take just about all the power you can throw at them and only sound better for it. Huge soundstage very detailed clarity . I encourage you to read online as these have quite the cult following. All drivers are perfect and work flawlessly.
