The CD player does power on, and lights up as you would expect. When pressing the load button the cd player opens up as you would expect and then closes back down. However when you press play, ordinarily a row of track numbers should light up on the display and your CD should then start playing however at this point you can hear the player trying to play the disc however it doesn’t and then powers itself off. We havent seen a top dust cover in this condition for many years. This really is a very special example. Being the 3500 it has the all-important inbuilt RIAA pre-amplifier, which means this deck will connect to any modern B&O Music System (such as the BeoSound 9000, BeoSound 3200, BeoSound 4, BeoSound Moment, BeoSound Core etc) and play without the need for an extrernal pre-amp and all the messy wires which go with it. Nice and neat. We have had this deck serviced by Brett at HEAR Audio in Barcombe, East Sussex who has been servicing and repairing Bang & Olufsen for over 20 years. It plays both 12cm and 8cm compact discs and has an ingenious step function which allows you to go straight to a chose track selected from anywhere on the disc. The CD player was one of the most technologically-advanced pieces of hi-fi on the market at the time and yet was one of the easiest to operate. The explicit display always indicated what the CD player was doing all the time - for example, which track was being played, and how many tracks there were on the played compact disc. This new model was a welcome addition to the range, because for the first time in the series of audio separates that started with the Beomaster 1900, a compact disc player was made available that not only matched the shape and size of the Beomaster (and Beocord), but could also be hung on the wall alongside it. The previous CD players for these systems, the Beogram CDX and CD3300, had been quite bulky and were suitable for horizontal running only. Electronically, the Beogram CD 4500 carried much over from the previous CD 3300.
