The Yamaha AX-596 is a great integrated amplifier . It pumps out 100 watts at 8 ohms RMS but is probably way over that. It is as loud as my 200 watt power amplifier. It has that typical clean, neutral, and uncolored yamaha sound with a touch of extra bass. A German hifi magazine noticed the warm tube like sound. All inputs work including the phono input that is decent enough that you wont need an external phono preamp. Any universal remote with the yamaha codes will work. The original remote is cheap on ebay. Two standout features are the variable loudness - secondary volume control made for preserving the full spectrum of sound at lower levels, and the main in and preout sections. This means you can use this AX-596 as a preamp to drive your power amplifier, or the other way around - use the AX-596 as a power amplifier and use an external preamp. About that, I tried this and was blown away at how good it sounds as a power amplifier paired with my CX-800 preamp. The components are all top quality, elna signal capacitors, and nichicon power supply capacitors - all audiophile grade. The amplifier section is yamahas TOP-ART design, meaning the signal travels the shortest possible distance with the least amount of interference. It matters. Ill let you in on a secret, yamaha has not changed their amplifier design since the 90s, the contemporary and far more expensive A-S701, and A-S801 look almost identical to this AX-596 when you take the lid off. Its all been yamahas TOP-ART design over and over again. Youd be getting performance equivalent to contemporary amplifiers for hundreds less. I cleaned the potentiometers with de-oxit, and set the bias to factory specifications. I am in Los Angeles and can offer a cash discount
