Other beacons reveal the incoming sample frequency, the absolute phase and operation of its crystal-controlled phase locked loop. The latter regenerates the Master Clock from incoming digital data using three narrow-bandwidth crystal-based oscillators for each of the three possible sample rates (48, 44,1 and 32kHz). Otherwise, any digital source that falls well outside the Class 1 tolerance is scooped-up by an initial free-running PLL, providing a lock at the expense of extra jitter.
