This is not a replica, It is the real deal. It is new, never used, and mounted on a Technics style headshell. It has a beryllium cantilever which is and was the finest element for a light weight cantilever and beryllium was superior for transmitting electrical signals to the magnets. Nothing works better, not boron, not titanium or any substance yet developed on earth for reproducing sound waves transferred by AudioTechnicas jewel quality diamond stylus. The AudioTechnica AT20SS is a very special cartridge and this one comes complete with its original nude Super Shibata stylus mounted to a beryllium cantilever. This was their top-of-the-line model and its unlikely well see anything like it again due to the cost and dangers of working with beryllium. According to a website thats specializes in high-end replacement styli, AudioTechnicas Super Shibata tip is small and more complex than a regular Shibata stylus such as used in the AT15Sa cartridge. Back in early 2002, I found out that all cartridge makers were being told to curtail their use of beryllium so I bought many of these gems and especially the styluss from LP gear and others. I have a few for my own personal use but I have too many to ever use so I am selling them now. These are brand new, never used, and are the Holy Grail of cartridges and stylus. They need at least 10-30 hours of play for break-in for best results. The solid beryllium cantilever is very thin but strong and like any stylus requires care in handling. These are delicate instruments but are rarely obtainable now, hence the value. This will provide extreme joy to serious audiophile vinyl lovers. I don’t have the original box.
