Thursday, September 7th, two large brand new factory - fresh boxes arrived with a Audio Research D-76A in one, and a SP-3A1 in the other, sent from the oldest surviving son of my lovely friend and audio Mentor, Robert W. Fulton ( 1925-1988 ). In September 1989, Roberts son had Audio Research rebuild both of these pieces. ( Receipts shown ) for his sons use, up until 15 years ago. Minor things, a fuse and an ON-OFF switch detent-failure has had these pieces unused, collecting dust, since then. My job is to evaluate and sell both mint pieces. Not being used for 15 years, on 9-11-2023 I variaced up both pieces, to very gently reform many power supply caps. The SP-3A1 will need its ON-OFF main switch replaced, as the switchs ON position - internal detent has failed. The preamp will be offered, NOT now, but only once it is repaired. The D-76A has a problem ( common ) and is thus NOW offered - on a eBay BIN - AS IS, for PARTS or REPAIR . The six 1989 ARC Factory-replaced power supply electrolytics around the D-76A power transformer, when the Variac gets up to a full 120 VAC INPUT feeding the amp, has one capacitor running unacceptably hotter to my fingers, than all the other five !!!! Unlike all other 1970s ARC gear I get to own, or see, BOTH of Bob Fultons units are in unusual mint cosmetic condition, meaning you have to look at the chassis really hard, to find ANY scratch, chip, dent or scruff in the finish. My photos do however show 15 years of storage dust . Its hard to read the 1989 SERVICE Report from Audio Research, so here Ill present it : S/N 574270-7 JOB INVOICE Replaced aged, leaking electrolytics in B+, heater, bias supplies. open R46 preventing screen regulation. Replaced burned-out PL1 ( pilot light ), V3 socket, microphonic / noisy V1-V4 tubes, cracked feet. Cleaned sockets, tightened jacks, cleaned input pots. Test run. Passed final tests. 6-7-96 Cost with a 50%-off parts Dealer Discount, $440.67. ARC replaced four 12AX7s and all five 6550s, with all new SOVTEK Russian production. The tubes look good in 2023, and are not retested. Entire original D-76A Owners manual is included, 1989 ARC JOB INVOICE and 1989 ARC Invoice is also included with amp. The originally - supplied ARC long-shaft insulated screwdriver is included.. The speaker terminal fittings have broken-off partitions, which is common. Missing one stock screw. Shipping is not additional , but rather is included in the $920.00, cost using a one-time used, otherwise new, white Audio Research shipping box.
