Description
I am about to sell the Audio Note tube pre-amplifier, model M1 Line (without phono) with the absolutely legendary AMPEREX 7316 tube (12AU7 equivalent). The gear purchased as brand new at polish AN Official Dealer so is 100% oryginal, Made in England. Registered in the AN service network - serial number: L-557 although never been repaired. Used but in absolutely immaculate condition. No modification apart from cable swap wich was made by the AN dealer - red AN-C istead of yellow AN-A (richer sound, better tempo, rythm, bas, bit more colorful presentation). Modification is easy to revers as original AN-A is included. - The AN M1 Line pre amp is a Leve1 design i.e. second from basic - this is in no way a value judgement. An excellent, minimalist design developed by Andy Grove on a single 12AU7/ECC82 tube. This is a model from before the transformers were replaced within AN products range - so it is a good, old, classic AN with a distinctive sound. Version with classic black acrylic panel with brass knobs. - The amp is equiped with AMPEREX 7316/ECC186 tube - which is the absolute Holy Grail when it comes to tubes from the 82/12au7 family. It is an exact equivalent with the precision and linearity of the Telefunken 802 and Simens ECC82 tubes, but adds to this an incredible quality and beauty of an euphonic, colourful midrange emphasising especially female vocals, choral vocals, the sound of stringed and wooden instruments - especially guitars, violins and saxophones. An absolutely brilliant tube with great consistency with this particular gear. Character of sound: The M1 itself plays with a cohesive, neutral, fast, rhythmic sound, with a characterful stage placement and a good pulsing, short bass. It is a rather firm sound, without tube noodling or heaviness. It plays rather brightly-neutral, openly and transparently. A sound without significant underpinning - perfect for overly warm solid state power amplifiers or for sluggish tubes. With the Amperex the sound is transparent, open transmission full of air, verve, space, light but with well-defined bass and punctuality, smooth but with good rhythm and great contour, deepened stage, midrange exposure without withdrawal of the bands extremes, playing with planes, velvety but luminous treble. Ideal for: old rock in the style of Abbey Roads Studio 1 recordings, blues, vocals - especially female vocals, acoustic music, guitar music, small symphonic ensembles, chamber music and early music from XV/XVI, ethno, dub, old electronica. I recommend and invite you to purchase. I will be happy to answer all questions.
