Audio Aero Capitole Mk2 Signature Edition Fully serviced and fitted with new capacitors and valves in December.New Philips CD Pro2 laser chassis with upgraded stabilising clamp fitted shortly before I moved from CDs to streaming (so hardly used). If, like me, you prefer the natural musicality of analogue sources and valves this was (and might still be) the best CD player in the world. It’s one of those rare and special pieces of hifi that sounds right. It was crazy expensive, £10,000 or maybe slightly more. But it was also great value (ish) because the one box contains a world class CD player, DAC and valve pre-amp. I stopped playing CD’s years ago but kept it as a DAC and pre-amp. I will probably regret selling it but now have a 3 year old so have already sold my valve amp and need to declutter the living room. The Capitole Mk.2 is a world class CD player, DAC and preamp. It was so good that I sold it to a friend and bought this Signature Edition which is even better. It cost something outrageous like £10,000 and I kept using it as a DAC and line stage preamp for a long time after giving up CDs. The DAC was finally bettered by the £18,000 Linn Klimax DSM/2 with Katalyst. The Audio Aero DAC is better than previous Linn Klimax Wolfson DAC, I know because Ive got a Klimax DS/1 in my second system. And the Audio Aeros valve preamp is better than any Linn but its close and Im trying to downsize my system. One of the capacitors failed a couple of month ago so I sent it to my electrical engineer. I love this CDP and tend to go a bit overboard with hifi anyway so had him replace all 19 capacitors and both of the valves as well as checking everything. Cost quite a lot but this is the best CD player bar none in my opinion so I decided to make sure it would be good for years to come. I’ll include the old valves incase the new owner wants to swap them in (they are still fine). This is an exceptional piece of hifi that sounds wonderful and should last for years. Boxed with original remote and a newer metal remote which is nicer to use. Audition and postage Audition welcome in Edinburgh on my Linn, Valvet, Duevel system. Ideally the buyer will buy this in person from me in Edinburgh after hearing it in my system. However, I do have the original packaging so postage is possible at the buyers risk and expense. I usually get the buyer to arrange and pay for shipping so that if theres a problem the legal relationship is between the new owner and the courier. That means that any insurance payout is made direct to the new owner. The box is 60 x 55 x 25cm and weighs a little under 20kg.Reviews Original Capitole MkII: https://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0902/audioaerocapitolen.htm Summary of the original Capitole MkII:https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/audio-aero-capitole-mkii.15494/ In the thread is a description of the different Audio Aero models: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/audio-aero-capitole-reference-se Description of the Signature Edition upgrades: https://www.theac.co.uk/audioaeroSE.html Review of the Prima DAC which I believe is the original Capitole MkII without a CD player: https://6moons.com/audioreviews/audioaero/prima.html
