Eigentlich sollte die Entwicklung eines kleineren Verstärkers innerhalb der FLS-Serie ja kein Problem sein. Schließlich gibt es mit dem FLS 10 bereits einen Premium-Vollverstärker, der keinen Wunsch mehr offen lässt. Doch wenn der Anspruch lautet, mit dem neuen Produkt auch bei niedrigerem Preis ganz nah an den Klang eines FLS 1 oder FLS 4 zu kommen, wird es schon schwieriger. Das ist auch der Grund, warum die Serienfertigung des Vollverstärkers FLS 9 so lange auf sich warten ließ. Dafür ist das Gerät nun vollsymmetrisch aufgebaut, hat Steckplätze für Phono-, DAC-, RCA- oder XLR-Boards sowie einen symmetrischen Vorstufenausgang und verwendet eine Transimpedanzschaltung mit lokaler Stromgegenkopplung.Die Stromversorgung des FLS 9 ist mit der audiatypischen Sorgfalt konstruiert. Sie besteht zum einen aus einem Ringkerntransformator mit 1.000 Watt, selbstverständlich vergossen und geschirmt. Er speist eine Kondensatorbank mit 120.000 ?F Speicherkapazität und acht analoge Stromkreise. Ein zusätzlicher Trafo sorgt für die Beschaltung von Display, Prozessor und LED, damit deren Einstreuungen nicht das Musiksignal stören. Zu jedem Kanal gehören zwölf Transistoren, die spiegelsymmetrisch aufgebaut sind. Der Kopfhörerausgang wurde vom FLS 10 übernommen. Zum Zubehör gehört eine Fernbedienung aus Aluminium, die eine Lautstärkeregelung in 0,5-dB-Schritten ermöglicht. Unterm Strich ist aus dem FLS 9 doch ein nicht ganz so kleiner Verstärker geworden, der 25,5 kg wiegt. Er erreicht nicht ganz die Leistungsdaten des FLS 10 – aber diese werden ja auch nicht für jeden Lautsprecher benötigt.Selbst frisch ausgepackt und ohne Einspielzeit präsentiert der FLS 9 einen sauberen musikalischen Fluß. Instrumente und Stimmen klingen organisch und stehen auf einer in ihren Dimensionen absolut glaubhaften Bühne. Das funktioniert schon bei geringen Lautstärken und ohne Effekthascherei mit grollenden Bässen und aufgesetzt klingenden Höhen. FLS 9 stellt vom ersten Moment an die Musik in den Vordergrund und lädt zum stundenlangen Genießen ein. Fragt man Massimiliano Marzi, wie die Entwickler dieses Kunststück geschafft haben, antwortet dieser kokett, man habe sich sehr intensiv mit der Auslegung der Schaltung und der Optimierung von Störabständen beschäftigt. Leider habe das mehr Zeit in Anspruch genommen, als ursprünglich geplant.Der FLS 9 braucht weniger Kühlkörperfläche als sein großer Bruder und wird im Betrieb trotzdem nicht besonders heiß. Das Display ist selbstverständlich dimmbar. Die einzelnen Eingänge im Menü des Verstärkers können verschieden benannt, deaktiviert oder gleich so geschaltet werden, dass sich der FLS 9 als Endstufe in eine hochwertige Heimkino-Lösung integriert.
