The two armatures are of different configurations – one being for the bass and the other handling the upper registers – and are arranged in such a way as to ensure that all frequencies arrive at the ear at precisely the same time. To do this, the Billie Jean makes use of a patented technology called Freqphase. This mounts the drivers in precisely cut lengths of tube to ensure the phase remains correct at all times, and Astell&Kern claims that this results in the best time alignment possible. Which is said to cancel out any phase inconsistencies for a more harmonic sound. The dual drive complement enables it to be the smallest model in the range. The headphone comes with a braided, silver-plated, copper cable with Kevlar braid. As a result of this process, the cable has astounding tensile strength.
