I finally (reluctantly) decided to sell my Aragon 4004 Mk II power amplifier. I have sold most of my larger and power hungry speakers. Often known as the poor mans Krell, because it has many of the traits of the much more expensive Krells and Dan DAgostino had a big part to play in the design of the amplifier. Check out the current DAgostino offerings ($$$) and youll soon realize why he is such a highly regarded designer. The unique enclosure was designed by Robbii (whose artwork graced many of the covers and back covers of The Absolute Sound magazine). Utilizes dual mono topology (with 2 large toroidal transformers) and probably other trickle down technologies found in the more expensive siblings (Krell). I think the 4004 has the sweet spot between the lower 2002 and higher 8008. Aragon was later acquired by Klipsch and I believe are still producing Aragon amplifiers (albeit at a much higher cost - I cant attest to the performance as I have not personally heard them). Rated at 200 WPC at 8 ohms and 400 WPC at 4ohms. Has an iron grip on the bass notes - note: it doesnt only excel in the bass region either. Only decided to sell because my listening room is now upstairs and it is smaller than my previous so I need to lug amps up and down whenever I want to swap them and the 4004 is no lightweight! The Mk II is the more desirable version with the Mondial transistors. In excellent minus cosmetic condition (there are some minor scratches some which are exaggerated by light angle but are hardly visible from a few feet away ), electrically excellent. One of my mainstays (amps) I had in my collection when I evaluated and cycle through many others over the years and one Ill probably regret selling (but I digress LOL). I think I may have some original brochures which I will include if/when I find them. I still have stuff in boxes a year after I move (another indication of having less time for the hobby). Comes from a smoke free home.
