ADVENT 5002 VINTAGE CROSSOVER. BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR A WHILE. WAS FUNCTIONING BUT SOLD AS IS.

Offered for your consideration is a pair of ADVENT 10 inch long-throw woofers removed from my ADVENT 4002 speakers, USA-manufactured in 1983. ADVENT designed these woofers to use a larger basket than the typical 10” platform for its greater depth and capacity for cone excursion. Its the same woofer that ADVENT used in the period 5002 and 5012 speakers. Earlier square-magnet versions were found on The Advent Loudspeaker, ADVENT/1, and others in the mid-to-late 1970’s, but this round magnet version should be perfectly compatible (as long as the basket/cone are the same). Regardless, the buyer is responsible for accurately verifying the suitability of these woofers for any application other than the ADVENT 4002. So, please see my large photos, the measurements, and read the remainder of the description to decide if these capable, hard-to-find ADVENT mid/bass woofers should be yours. These ADVENT woofers are in clean, very good-to-excellent condition. The sturdy, ribbed paper cones are structurally flawless and the voice coil dustcaps are dent-free perfect. Also, the steel baskets are in nice shape with no dents, just some blemishes to the flat black finish on the mount flanges as pictured. Plus, the sizeable magnets have no chips or oxidation. Most importantly, the aged original polyurethane foam suspension was just replaced with modern polyether foam surrounds in the correct narrow flange lip profile designed expressly for these ADVENT woofers. The main drawback to most U.S. and foreign-made speakers from the early 1970’s to 1990’s was the use of foam surrounds for woofer cone suspension. Though foam offers better excursion than coated linen and rubber, it invariably rots and/or disintegrates in 10-20 years no matter what climate you live in. These stalwart ADVENT woofers were no exception—the surrounds had dried out, fell apart, and sidelined the terrific ADVENT 4002 speakers for some 20 years. Some of you have replaced speaker surrounds before, so you know that it’s a time-consuming process that takes a great deal of patience and a steady hand. First, I cleaned the cone edges and basket flanges to remove the old gummy foam and stubborn factory adhesives, which takes some time to do thoroughly, and then glued the inner surrounds to the cones. On this woofer design, the inner surround lip sits under the cone edge instead of on top the way most do. Since the glue must be applied first, stretching/tucking the surround under the cone, and adjusting to a precise fit, can make a big mess on the cone if not done with the utmost of care. Fortunately, I’ve had lots of practice. Next, I glued the outer surround lips to the basket flanges after careful voice coil centering to verify no rubbing or distortion during play. Now these woofers are in great shape once again; perhaps even better than new with the improved polyether foam surrounds of today! Most importantly, these woofers have been fully tested after the new surrounds were installed and sound great—very clear with fast, detailed midrange, and solid bass response. I also tested their DC resistance at a closely-matched 4.7 and 4.8?, respectively, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 11?” across (12½” on the diagonal), they stand just over 5”, and the mount holes are spaced 8¼” adjacent / 11?” on the diagonal, c-t-c. These are a great find if your 4002, or other suitable ADVENT speakers, have been sitting idle due to decayed surrounds, a blown woofer(s), etc—your cherished speakers will be sounding their finest once again in no time! So, as pictured and described, this pair of ADVENT 10” woofers, with painstakingly refurbished surrounds, is offered at a competitive price. Offered for your consideration is a fuse holder with fuse from my ADVENT Model 4002 speakers, USA-manufactured in 1983. This style of fuse cap appears to be the one also used in the ADVENT 5002, 5013, and 6003 from the same model range, but buyer is responsible for accurately verifying its suitability for any speaker other than the 4002. So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this ADVENT fuse cap should be yours. *Although the listing is written largely in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical ADVENT fuse caps are available at the time of this writing. This fuse cap is in clean, excellent condition. It is made from black plastic with metal receiver and measures 11/16” in diameter. The receptacle holds the fuse by tension and comes with its original 1½A 250V #312 fuse with intact filament. Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage ADVENT 1 inch soft dome tweeter removed from my ADVENT 4002 speakers, USA-manufactured in 1983. From what I’ve read, this is the first soft dome tweeter used by ADVENT and was also found in other period ADVENT models, the 3002, 5002, 5012, and 6003. So, please take a look at the large photos I’ve taken, the measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if this capable ADVENT dome tweeter should be yours. This ADVENT tweeter is in clean, fair-to-good condition. It has a perfect poly dome with no dents or dimples. Unfortunately, the plastic faceplate is not in the best shape with mount hole cracks at all four corners, even some light stress cracks at the main surface. The brittle plastic coupled with factory over-torqueing of the mount screws has made this a fairly common occurrence with these tweeters. I neatly glued three of the corners where the broken plastic was still there, so a light touch must be used when retrofitting to your speaker. Plus, the large ceramic-ferrite magnet is in great shape with no chips or oxidation. And, the +/- terminals are color-keyed for polarity (red dot side = pos) and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, this ADVENT tweeter is quite serviceable. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very clear with strong output and lively upper midrange extending to a full 23kHz . Plus, its DC resistance tested at 7.7?, right in line with a nominal 8 ohm rating. Lastly, the faceplate measures 5” by 4 7/16” and it stands about 1¼” (incl. the dome). This is a nice find if your 4002 or other suitable ADVENT has a tweeter that’s blown and will have your speakers sounding their best again. Unless you play your speakers with the grilles off, that blemished faceplate will be forgotten about in no time! As pictured and described, this ADVENT soft dome tweeter is offered at a reasonable price. This listing is for a pair of 10 Advent woofers, removed from a pair of 4002s I am parting out. These were also used in the 5002, 5012, New Large Advent, Advent/1 & possibly some other models. These are the oversize 10 woofers that measure 11 7/16 across & 12 1/2 ear to ear on the diagonal. These woofers were reconed by a local Houston speaker repair shop some years ago. Both woofers have been tested with music & a multi meter & are in very good working condition. The foam surrounds are good & strong. DCR = 4.7 & 4.8 each.

This is a Advent 10-995-210 1 soft dome tweeter, removed from a 4002 speaker I am parting out. I believe these were also used in the 5002, 5012 & the Maestro. It appears this tweeter & the 85C0019 are the same. Tweeter was tested with music & a multi meter. Tweeter is in very good working condition. The dome does have some fine creases in the dome, which is cosmetic only. Impedance is 8 ohms & DCR = 5.8. Face plate measures 4 7/16 tall & 5 wide.
