For Sale Acoustat 2+2 in good working order. Two owner, no smoking. Medallion Transformers, “C” mod, new capacitors and NOS OEM grill covers. My friend Tom bought these in 1983 and they have been in his home until I acquired them a few months ago. Tom purchased and installed the Medallion transformers from Acoustat in 1985; the “C” mod kit in 1989 and a pair of OEM replacement grill covers in 2011 (he never installed the grill covers and kept them their original packaging). With Roy Esposito’s (former Acoustat Engineer) guidance I replaced the capacitors, diodes and small resistors on the High Bias circuits as well as the capacitors in the High Frequency circuit and fuses with the exact parts he recommended. I replaced the Monster Cable which is prone to corrosion with oxygen-free wiring. The HF transformers and HF gain controls have been tested with a multi-meter and are within specs. While I had the old grill covers off I inspected the stator wires and they remain firmly in place, the membrane appeared taunt and clean only a few of the damping matts needed to be glued down, everything else in the panels looked great. I installed the grill covers that were purchased in 2011. Both speakers play at equal volume with no perceptible distortion and as best as I can tell they are working as they should. The only noticeable blemishes in the speakers are a small chip on each of the speaker bases and there are two faint marks on one of the grill covers. I saw the marks on the grill cover when I removed it from it’s sealed bag and given the age of the grill covers I haven’t tried to clean the cover. I have really enjoyed restoring these and spending time with them, they have made me rethink a lot of what I thought I knew about electrostatic speakers. As remarkable as they are, they are not my cup of tea and I’d love to see them go to a home where they will be appreciated. My research indicates that 2+2s with these upgrades often sell for about $1,000. I’m open to reasonable offers.
