It uses a master clock system that controls all operations with one clock.In the conventional method, two types were used, one for digital signal processing and the other for microprocessor. Therefore, the difference between the two oscillation frequencies causes a beat, which is a cause of sound quality degradation. In the DP-80L, this beat does not occur because it controls everything with one clock. For your consideration here is the legendary and seldom seen for sale superlative Accuphase DP-80L transport and DC-81L D/A CD converter. By today’s standards, the DC-81L with its 20-Bit DAC and 8x Oversampling may seem outdated but when you really listen to it with some of its newer counterparts, you would be hard pressed to hear the difference. In fact, I assure you will often feel you prefer the sound emanating out from the Accuphase combo because it just sounds so natural. No hyped up technology to “enhance” the sound, just plain simple natural processing and excellent engineering and design. And to think this combo appeared almost 30 years ago! Just go on-line and check the rave review in Stereophile by John Atkinson’ of this revised version. PLEASE KINDLY NOTE THE FOLLOWING:The pair you see here is the later version which is denoted by the “L” added to the model name. It is substantially better than the more commonly seen non L versions. You can see this by the front panels. These revisions were $5000 more than the regular versions. With the “L”, the already excellent non-L version had a mild refreshing to the design where it became far more refined sounding and better in all respects. Built and finish is top rated as previous version and continues to be an ultra reliable workhorse. The transport’s CD tray slides in and out with a silky smooth motion that just makes you wonder what did the other manufacturers get it wrong in their CD mechanism. Digital output is via coaxial or Toslink. The DC-81L DAC will accept up to six digital sources – three Toslink and three coaxial. I bought this in Japan a few years back and never needed anything more. I have compared to the latest stuff and I did not feel justified by the competition. It has been my reference CD player along with the limited edition Denon DP-S1 and DA-S1 combo which I sold not long ago. Just plays music in all its beauty.Please be aware some sellers are trying to push selling non L versions in some publications including on these pages as costing $13000 for both and that is unfortunately inaccurate. They commonly sell between $2200-2500.00 . These I am selling are genuine L models and are the real top of the line Accuphase units of this era with considerably improved sonics.Both have performed flawlessly with no issues since these were bought and serviced in Japan. Very low usage. You need to use a step down converter but those are inexpensive to come by. Both units don’t go beyond 50 watts at max. 100 VOLT .$13,000 was a chunk of big money to pay in those days. It translates to over $32,000 (!) in today’s times.Cosmetically, the units are in excellent shape for its age. I see only two minor scuff marks/nicks from use just towards the back of the units as shown in the last picture but nothing major. The dark wood side panels are gorgeous. I will include the remote, original sales brochure and the very rare Accuphase Toslink cable. They will be shipped in two boxes very well packed. One box weighs 40 lbs the other 43 lbs.
