The Wharfedale W60 was made from 1962 to 1966. It is a 2 way system featuring a 12 Alnico woofer and a paper cone tweeter. NOW AVAILABLE WITH SPEAKER STANDS AND SUPER TWEETERS!!! The stands really go with the Mid-Century Modern vibe of the speakers, and the tweeters really elevate the high frequencies. They sound good without the tweeters, but great with them! Mine are the original W60 which has the '5' tweeter. Crossover is simple - utilizing a single 12uF paper capacitor (which has been replaced) and an L-Pad (that has been cleaned and tested) to control the high frequency output. Construction quality is high - heavily built with even a separate enclosure for the tweeter. The new capacitors are from Mundorf, made in Germany and match the original specs. All speakers tested with multimeter between 7-8 ohms. All drivers also look great, nearly new. Surprising, since these speakers are over 60 years old. All of the woofer nuts were secured with thread locker when reinstalled (the blue stuff on the threads). The tweeter baskets have been re-sealed where the wire passes through. This early version had vintage England type “wander plugs”, which are not common it the US and do not hold wires that secure, so I have upgraded the speakers to a standard newer type binding post that will accept bare wire, banana plugs, or spade connectors. The wander plugs are still connected and can be used if you chose to go that route. Or they could be used to add a super tweeter at some point. Something I had thought about. There is also some RCA block off plugs that I put in to cover the wander plugs (red and black dots in the photos) The cabinets are in fair to good condition, especially for their age. No major chips or corner dings. The grilles on these early models are only removable by removing screws from the inside, but I have photos of all the drivers that I can send via messenger, if you’re interested. Come check them out! They are a great vintage speaker with a warm laid back vintage sound that makes music sound great. Local Pick-up Only!
