A RARE COLLECTORS ITEM. THE FIRST TOSHIBA CD PLAYER - LATE 1982. IN GOOD WORKING ORDER, AND VERY NICE PHYSICAL CONDITION. VERY FEW MARKS OR SCRATCHES. PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS. ONE OF THE VERTICAL LOADING PLAYERS THAT WERE PRODUCED BY SEVERAL JAPANESE MANUFACTURERS. THEY WERE ALL SHORT LIVED AND ALL WERE REPLACED WITHIN A YEAR OR SO BY SECOND GENERATION MODELS USING THE HORIZONTAL LOADING METHOD THAT HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED BY PHILIPS AND SONY, BECOMING UNIVERSALLY ADOPTED. BUT ITS NICE TO SEE THAT DISC SPINNING THROUGH THE WINDOW ! THIS MODEL IS ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMERS OF ALL THOSE VERTICAL LOAD MODELS , AND THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. WITH A GOOD DISC IT READS THE TOC AS FAST AS ANY MODERN PLAYER. IT CHANGES TRACKS VERY QUICKLY AND PLAYS PERFECTLY. GENERALLY VERY POSITIVE - MOST VERTICAL LOADERS CAN BE ‘VAGUE’ OR HESITANT IN OPERATION. IF YOU’RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THEM BE AWARE THAT THEY CAN BE A BIT ‘PICKY’ ABOUT WHAT DISCS THEY LIKE TO PLAY. THEY’RE FAR LESS TOLERANT OF DISC DEFECTS THAN LATER MODELS. THIS IS PARTLY BECAUSE DISC PRODUCTION STANDARDS FELL AFTER CIRCA 1985. A LOT OF DISC PRESSING PLANTS STARTED TO REGARD THE STRICT RED BOOK STANDARDS AS ‘OPTIONAL’ TO SOME EXTENT ! ALL THESE VERY EARLY PLAYERS CAN STRUGGLE TO READ SOME OF THOSE DISCS. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A PLAYER TO PLAY EVERY DISC YOU OWN, REGARDLESS OF CONDITION, THIS IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. NO RETURNS ON THIS SCORE PLEASE ! ‘FULL WIDTH’ - 420 mm wide. 350 deep. 145 high. - NOT ‘MIDI’ SIZE. ABOUT 14 KILO IN WEIGHT. NO LIGHTWEIGHT!
