TENSAI TD 861B 2 SPEED BELT DRIVE TURNTABLE LATE 1970S/EARLY 80S I AM QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THIS TURNTABLE, HAVING MADE A COUPLE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING REPLACING THE BELT AND UPGRADING THE CARTRIDGE TO A ORTOFON OM10 (NOT NEW BUT GOOD PERFORMANCE AND PLENTY OF USE LEFT IN IT) AS YOU CAN SEE THE COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS DECK ARE THE HINGES OF THE LID WHICH AFTER 40 ODD YEARS DO GIVE UP THE GHOST AS YOU WILL SEE FROM OTHER EXAMPLES FOR SALE. 1 OF THEM ON MINE IS GOOD BUT DESPITE GLUEING THE OTHER, IT DID SPRING BACK AFTER A MONTH OR SO, AS THERE IS A PIECE OF PLASTIC MISSING. THE REST OF THE DECK IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION INCLUDING THE LID WHICH DOES HAVE MINOR SCRATCHING BUT COMPLETE WITH NO CHUNKS OUT OF IT BARRING AFOREMENTIONED PART OF THE HINGE. THE BALANCE WEIGHT WITH CAT GUT IS MISSING BUT IT DOES TRACK FINE WITHOUT IT AND THESE ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE ON EBAY FOR OTHER SIMILAR DECKS IF SO REQUIRED. HAVE LOADED UP A SHORT VIDEO OF THE DECK IN OPERTION AND THERE PHOTOS SHOWING HOW I USED A BATTERY TO PROP UP THE LID. THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BUY FOR A STARTER SET-UP (AND I DONT MEAN IN ANY WAY THAT IT IS BASIC) WITH THE BELT REPLACED AND AN UPGRADED CARTRIDGE MAKES FOR WHAT I CONSIDER A BARGAIN. There should be a small weight on a fine cord that is for the tracking, I made my own out of cord and a small weight. This is an old vintage turntable with scratches and marks as can be seen. It will play records! Collection possible, Southampton area. Its a heavy solid deck. A small pre amp will be included.
