TEAC V-5RX Dolby & DBX Cassette Deck I always try tp represent honestly.This one has been used well, and thatis why I have it on auction insteadof buy it now.Main reasons are the slight corrosionon the function buttons (*see pic) andthat the head is a bit worn (*see service). These decks are getting rare.Ive always liked the attractive powder coated,aluminum front panel with the large, vertical VU meters.A fresh change from the usual black/silver.I think the unit looks best in a stack with black ampsetc., but it looks good with silver units, too.The deck has all the basic features you need plus DBXif you need that to decode those old tapes. OR ifyou just like the DBX method for recording and play.Plenty good things to say about how it works, but Im aDolby guy, or I use NO noise reduction and good tape. The unit has factory attached audio cables.Comes with original box w/foams.My one year free-labor warranty. Service:Have to hand it to Teac.A rock solid transport.Very rugged minimalist design - what Teac do.Ive worked on these before, and they are high quality.All steel construction. Very reliable.Nice 3-motor design with a capstan motor, a reel motor, and a motor to drivethe selected mode; Play, Rec and Pause. So very Sankyo like.These transports dont need a lot. A little lube for the head slider bearings and a couple of pivots.The tires for the winding motor were shot, so replaced them.This is probably the most critical thing to do.And of course, all the belts were replaced.Speed was set and W&F checked.Tape path was cleaned and de-magd as usual, and head alignment verified. *This deck needed to be EQd in play mode.Since there is no adjustment, I had to replace a few resistors to get the playto come up to spec.A complete electronic alignment was then performed.I optimized for Normal and CrO2 tapes andlet the Metal setting fall where it may.You shouldnt be recording on Metal anyway,(ask me) but it still works fine.Metal PLAYS fine as the EQ is the same for CrO2.The DBX was tested as functioning per service manual, but I have no other references to compare it to. Seems to work fine. Cosmetics:In overall nice looking condition.Check the pics on the front panel.*The TOPS of the function buttons andfront of a few are showing that corrosionthat a lot of faux-aluminum plasticparts get.All the plastic glass looks good.Check out the pics.
