This listing is to purchase a Sony TC-136SD stereo tape recorder. It is not working and is missing the tape door. Here is the testing that was done so you can make some judgement about what parts might be usable: - Powered on successfully- Tape inserted and press play - Tape transport worked as expected but VU meters pegged at max indicating some other problem.- Something is rattling around inside when you turn it upside down- No further testing performed See photos for cosmetic condition. Here we have a SONY TC-136SD vintage cassette deck. The last time I used this cassette deck was in the year 2001, and its been stored away ever since. Im now moving abroad, so everything I dont need has to go. It was working well when I packed it away, but upon testing it yesterday I found it struggled to rewind the tape - so Im guessing the drive belt is now slipping. The fast-forward and play controls appear to be working fine (..although Ive no idea if the sound quality is as it should be). In addition to the weak rewind, I found one of the VU meter needles pointing fully to maximum as soon as the mains power was connected. Ive no idea what might cause this - but the needle would drop again if I put even the slightest pressure on the stop key. It appears to have something to do with the tape select lever, because moving this would send the second VU meter needle to maximum too. For the above reasons, Im reluctant to say this unit is in good/used condition - although it is aesthetically excellent. If youre handy with a screwdriver and a bottle of contact cleaner, you may have it operating as well as it did when I packed it away in no time. However, I cant guarantee it will be an easy fix, so Im starting the auction at a price commensurate with a unit sold just for spares. Please do not bid if you do not understand this! On 04-Jun-23 at 20:12:24 BST, seller added the following information: BIDDERS PLEASE NOTE: I managed to borrow a music cassette and headphones to test this tape player today, and I discovered that the left-hand VU meters high reading corresponds to a loud buzzing through that particular channels speaker. Ive no idea if this will be an easy fix or not, so i can say for sure now that i am selling this item as spares or repair. Anyone who has already bid on this unit, but who is unprepared to repair it, please withdraw your bid. Apologies to anyone concerned!

Vintage Sony TC-136SD Stereo Cassette Corder Tape Deck Japan 1970s SPARES REPAIR. Partially working- Plays but sound level low, play again and sound level normal on left channel, no sound and no VU reading on right channel, rewinds, fast forwards, headphone socket works. Recording and mic input not tested. Cosmetically in very good clean condition with a few very minor marks/scuffs (photos 7, 9). Comes with UK power cord.
