SONY Super Audio CD Player SCD-C555ES 5-CD Changer Player ES Series If you are looking at this listing, you probably already know all about this particular model. It was a Stereophile-listed top component and was a flagship SACD player when Sony released it. Extremely heavy and just an all-around cool piece of gear. I am the second owner of this unit and have had it for at least 15 years. It was not used for the past 7 years, and it was only sparingly used when it was my main CD player. I enjoyed it this past week playing different CDs to make sure everything is operational. Condition: Cosmetically it is almost flawless and comes with the original manual, remote, styrofoam and box. Playback: The unit plays back CDs perfectly and switches between CDs as expected. I remember that 7 years ago that I had an issue playing back a hybrid SACD. I remember it playing back the CD layer fine of the hybrid SACD. The few SACDs that I have are buried deep in boxes after a move 5 years ago so I cannot test SACDs today. I feel that you need to assume that the unit will not play back SACDs at all at this point. Maybe a cleaning, internal adjustment, or new laser can bring back the SACD functionality back to life. It is still a real impressive CD player and the mechanical switching of CDs is pretty cool. Thanks for looking!
