If you have proactively searched for this very rare pre/power amp combination then you need no explanation - however, this is a highly attractive set featuring massive Dynamic Power on Demand circuitry that provides a quite extraordinary dynamic headroom of 7.3dB…translating into independent tests that demonstrate some of the highest power outputs seen in this type of equipment. I am selling a Proton 1100 Preamp and a Proton AT-300 Tuner.If cosmetics are not important to you - These are a bargain!(The cases could use some TLC)Both have been repaired and are functioning very well.I spent a great deal of time repairing these units (too much time!)Here is the back story:I bought these on eBay and it was a terrible experience. I normally request pictures of gear POWERED ON and also ask for pictures of any cosmetic deficiencies. This time I didnt.The gear arrived loose in the box and the faceplates were both bent in the left lower corner (see pictures.)The scratches on the faceplate were not displayed on in the ad.I put both pieces on my bench and tested them. Both units passed sound but the LIGHTING on each was non-functional.In fact the tuner had no visible display!I disassembled both units and installed new LED lamps in both.The green illuminated power buttons on Proton gear are its hallmark.Preamp:Replaced the power button lamp with an LEDAll of the controls were scratchy so I cleaned and lubed them.They operate quietly now (the balance pot does have a faint noise when changing but its not noticeable)I tested all of the inputs and function very well (including the phone stage)Tuner:All three lamps had burned out. The LCD display requires this backlighting.The display lamps are housed behind the display and the rubber grommets had decomposed.I retrofitted new grommets and INSTALLED NEW LED backlighting.The unit tunes in FM and AM satisfactorily (typical for a low line unit)An antenna is a must. I have built a shipping box that will contain both items using 1.5 insulation sheets ( I used this for all of my shipping)They are protected from each other AND the manhandling of the shippers.The units are 100% functional but sold as-is.
